I'm using Clover with 10.10 (release) and had a lot of issues getting sound set up at all. Lost ariound 2 days and repeated procedures again and again... I finally managed to hit the Jackpot more by luck than anything else I imagine, but still no sound from the front panel Speaker port - I'd like to be able to use this headphone port for games etc....
Heres a bit about my set up...
Ga-z87x - UD5h and 3.5Ghz 4770k - i7 at default speed, NVidia GT 240 1Gb DDR3
1) I had no sound at all on upgrading to Yosemite and found the various Toleda posts about the new patching method. These were at best very confusing... too much clutter. As mentioned I spent around 2 days trying to get audio to work. Bottom line is I tried the ALC-90_V2.command script,,, ALC90???my chip is an ALC 898!!! and every time I ran this, regardless of clean install or installing on top of an existing install I kept getting dodgy AppleHDAAudio.kext messages and that it was ignored...reboot. And each time nothing doing. FINALLY I did a full restore to my main drive which was at this stage broken and booting Chimera. I deleted the extra folder and reinstalled Clover... I then went to my clover install USB and "patched and blessed" the volume... it booted this time! =) Still no audio though!
This time I used the even more dubious audio_cloverALC-100.command.zip - I was only really concerned with getting audio and no clue what to expect from this,,, but this did the trick! (again why ALC 100 when the chips are ALX8xx etc???). Anyhow this (as before) identified the chip - 89/ to which I hit y... then opted to accept the HDMI choice also... Bit of kext rebuild activity but no reference at all to AppleHDA.kext (GOOD NEWS!)... so I rebooted... and there it was... Rock and Roll! I found a folder on my desktop with the original kext and a copy of the patched kext in it!
Checked System Preferences/Sound and it was stacked... so I then used Clover Configuration to check for an injection Entry in Kernel and Kext Patches and amazingly there's nothing there... so this lkeft me even more confused having followed the "What to expect" guides. Can only assume that somehow this is a direct kext patching method rather than an injection.
Following the horrors of trying to get HDMI working on Mountain Lion and Mavericks under Chimera - Big issues with Mirroring in particular.. I thought I'd give it a shot under the new OS and Bootloader.. First tried to hook up my DVI and USB to the Onboard Intel4600 and immediately ran into all sorts of issues... even after changing bios to read Intel rather than the GeForce and enabling it also,,, Booting gave me a black Screen on the DVI monitor but would read the HDMi,,,etc etc... Eventually got fed up with this and decided to plug the DVI and HDMI into the GeForce and reboot with GeForce Green Lighted!..
Booted horribly, mirrored and even lost the desktop background from my TV Monitor... So I turned mirroring odd...rebooted fully expecting it to revert to mirrored as before... and indeed it looked horrible while booting... got to log in screen logged in and YES - independent monitors... So rebooted a third time now.. and booting now is reflected on each monitor (rather than spreading across the 2 screens in "gathered" fashion.. I could choose1 either monitor to log in... and when I do I have independent screens as before... FINALLY
Now for the ACID test... (or maybe the ECSTASY test...)... Chose a movie and dragged it onto the TV monitor in VLC... chose audio Device as Samsung HDMI... hit play and.... NOTHING!
So before I lost it... decided To quit VLC... and then reopen a different movie... and for the first time in 6 years on Hack I had Sound and Vision in HDMI working perfectly on my TV via the Compu. I can also switch to my HDA 7:1 So the best of all worlds...
EXCEPT ONE...
i still have no input/output via the AC'97 Front Panel sockets on my rig. Definitely had these operational a few years back so wonder what has changed, or indeed if theres a simple fix to get them working!
A big thanks to Toleda for all the great work done over the years in "making it so",,, The old HDA guide still works like a charm... but I wish the guides were a lot simpler and clearer....
Bottom line here..
Yosemite Ga-z87x-UD5H (and presumably a wide range of z87 boards)
To get Audio working!
1) download audio_cloverALC-100.command.zip
2) make sure you are using a virgin AppleHDAAudio.kext (Clean install or OS reinstall on top of existing install and reboot)
3) Run the script (unzip and double click it - A Terminal Window Opens)
4)your Chip should be correctly identified (hit y and return)
5) add HDMI support (Hit y and return)
wait for kext caches to be rebuilt,,
6) Reboot
DONE! you should now have audio and also The folder mentioned on the desktop
