Have you updated to 10.6.4? Rumor has it that it brings native kernel support for the 980x.

I did the update. Still no support for 980x - had to roll back to legacy kernel.

According to Insanely,

The 980x is supported by the 10.4.0 kernel! Testers needed! Thanks! :D

Rabitt74, with your i7 are you getting the full 8 Gb. ?

Thanks for the update Tony.

I got it working.

I did as stated in the mentioned post and updated to chameleon to RC5

Now 10.6.4 vanilla is running 980x. I didn't do my initial testing very vigorously. I did the update rebooted and got the same kind of system restart as with 10.6.3 so I assumed wrong. I also didn't see anything in the 10.6.4 beta that suggested support for 980x so when it wouldn't boot I just figured apple wasn't ready yet.

Thanks again.

Everything is working. I think that should give you the answer. I have 12G RAM in my system.

Please let me know if anyone comes across the smbios code for 980x processor recognition.

right now have:
Code:
<key>SMcputype</key>
<string>1793</string>

Which gives me "Unkown Processor" in System Profiler.

Thanks

Re: 980x works with iBoot, How? and how to fix CMOSreset nonDSDT

same with me. I have it all running well, but no cpu recognition. I guess we need some other code for 6core processors.

Re: 980x works with iBoot, How? and how to fix CMOSreset nonDSDT

force64 and busratio=25 are no longer needed with 10.6.4 :)

Only issue I've seen so far is About this Mac doesn't recognize the Processor

I've attached my DSDT that was created via d00b's method

DSDT.aml and dsdt.dsl for i7 980x, derived from GA-EX58-UD5 and BIOS F12, with S3 sleep, fixes (doesn't include 18 and 19) and audio option B: DSDT_GA_EX58_UD5_F12_980x.zip

Jboehm, Thanks for posting your DSDT.

I am having one issue with the new kernel. The Time clock is running really fast. Are you experiencing the same thing?

Here is my DSDT

GA-EX58A-UD5 for i7-980x

I started with jboehm's DSDT and edited it for my board and also added the minimum DSDT edits outlined in MacMan's Post.

Thanks to MacMan and Jboehm.

Re: 980x works with iBoot, How? and how to fix CMOSreset nonDSDT

EDIT: Wow, ya. I'm seeing the same thing. Thats bad ....

I haven't noticed any clock problems. I haven't left it up continuously long enough to notice a problem. How long does it take to notice the problem?

I know there are clock fixes in d00d's DSDT edits. Also make sure your HPET is enabled and set to 64-bit in your BIOS.
