Afternoon lovely people - quick advice if you can!

I have a ten year old Hackintosh that is utterly rock solid. Upgrades with no issues, has never let me down. I have other builds for family which have wobbled and been problematic, but this one is a gem. Literally never an issue.

The processor is quite old now - it is a quad core Ivy Bridge i5 on a Gigabyte Z77-DS3H board. The answer to this is probably no, but I have a pare hexacore 8th gen i5 processor - can they straight swap in and out, or will that not work?

The answer to this is probably no,
Correct, an 8th gen i5 can't possibly be used in your older hackintosh.
Why not upgrade to the i7-3770 ? Buy used on Ebay at reasonable prices. The 3570K can be resold too.

FYI I just did a similar upgrade. Went from an i5 2500k to an i7 3770 (non-k). Dropped right in and recognized immediately, didn't have to do any updating. Though I did just update to Catalina from High Sierra.
