Hello, I got a laptop: Samsung R560 and want to install both Windows 8.1 and MacOSX Yosemite on it.
First of all, I already read the basic installation guides and know how I want to set it up:

- Dual boot configuartion with Hybrid MBR

Here the specs of the machine:

- Core2Duo P9500 2,53GHz
- Nvidia Geforce 9600M GT
- 4 GB RAM
- Samsung SSD 840
- Marvel Yukon Ethernet Adapter
- Phoenix Bios

First I tried to make a bootable Yosemite install-stick with VirtualBox and Unibeast but since creating the stick takes forever and also Unibeast not officially supporting virtual machines I thought I install it first on the old HDD that got replaced by the SSD.

Here now my problems and questions:

1. Installed MacOSX 10.6.3 with iBoot method
2. Had to boot with "ignoring cache" to get my keyboard and mouse to work
-> thus the built in keyboard and my bluetooth mouse work flawlessly
3. Also used "GraphicsEnabler = Yes" and USBBusFix=Yes once
4. Did a MultiBeast installation of EasyBeast and Repair permissions once

5. Now I have to get the Ethernet Adapter working:

5.1 I read about a kext for the Marvel Yukon but:
- Where to get a rather "official" release where I can be sure it's a trustworthy source? In the posts
I read there were only links to other websites and user uploaded zips.

- Some posted only one kext like Marvel.kext and others posted 3 kexts like IONetworkingFamily, IOPCIFamily and Marvel88xx.kext. Which one will be the most likely to work in the end?

- I used the kext helper b7 but when it asks me to restart the machine MacOSX won't shut down voluntarily so I have to forcefully quit the kext helper. The Ethernet adapter didn't work afterwards.
So will this procedure fail when I forcefully shut down kext helper "after all operations are done"?

- When I want to install a kext, I first have to unzip the files if it's zipped right? Then I drag it onto kext helper and run it?

6. Somewhere I read about OSX not supporting the VGA port. Is that true? At the moment I'm using a 1024x768 external Sony Flatscreen on the laptop....

7. Sometimes I get an icon on the Apple boot screen thats looks like a greyscale stopping restricion shield. What's that all about? OSX won't get to dektop then.

Ok thats it for know. Hope you can help me out.

Bye

Ok i finally got the Ethernet working. It was simply a misunderstanding and the actual device
is a Marvel Yukon 88E8055 rather than xxx56.

So I could simply do a quick kext patch by deleting the "secondaryMatch" entry in the info.plist.

Now I'm stuck at updating from 10.6.3 to 10.6.8:

After downloading the required files with SoftwareUpdate and want to restart, the system gets stuck before shut down. Any ideas?

iBoot cannot be used to boot 10.6.8. You must be using an updated bootloader at that point...

Hello.

Well I also installed Chimera with Multibeast but I always leave the iBoot CD in the drive and start with it.

Nevertheless I got Snow Leopard to update and not getting stuck at reboot screen: Maybe it was a short repair permissions and cache rebuild process I did but in the end the update procedure started and reboot worked.

So now I'd like to update to Yosemite 10.10.3.

1. Is it possible to do it without creating a bootable Stick with Unibeast and just use the OSX installer I downloaded right away?

2. I tried that and got kernel panic when it rebooted.
-> Is it possible that I need some boot flags now that I didn't need before? (like npci, GeneratePStates etc.)
-> What about Bios options like Intel SpeedStep and Execute Disable Bit? Are they supported by OSX?
-> Is iBoot able to boot Yosemite? Or do i now HAVE to use Chimera/Chameleon?

3. What about the FakeSMC kext? Is it really necessary? SnowLeopard 10.6.3 was working without it. I just installed it because Multibeast info said it was essential. Will it cause kernel panic maybe after Yosemite Update?

Update:
1: Now when updating to Yosemite 10.10.3 from 10.6.3 the system restarts (using iBoot) but the Update won't be applied and Snow Leopard is still the operating system.

Plus: When I now try to start the OSX Yosemite installer it says: This version of OSX (10.10.3) can't be installed on this system.
This can be avoided by restarting the system once again.

But how to update now to Yosemite? Can't it be done on my machine?
I installed EasyBeast now but still the same problem.

Thanks

No. You need to use your SL to download Yosemite and then create a USB. Then start from scratch...

All hacks require FakeSMC. You may be confused because iBoot contains FakeSMC in /Extra/Extensions.

Ok that explains a lot. I will create an Install stick then. The only problem is that I already tried that and it takes forever. After 4 hours I had only 1GB of data on the stick. I read about others having the same problem. Is there a workaround for that? The USB stick is not good nor bad, just an average device but I don't have 12 hours to wait for the stick to finish :)

Sounds like you have some sort of USB problem. I'm not really familiar with problems you might encounter with old hardware like yours...

And I'm generally using Clover these days...

Hello guys, haven't fixed my USB issues yet.

Therefore I got some more questions:

1.
To create an Install-Stick from Snow Leopard (to create a Yosemite Stick):
Do you have to use the latest Unibeast or an old one specifically for SnowLeopard?

2.
I have an old laptop(2008) with Phoenix BIOS. In the BIOS settings I can switch between an old
Legacy Boot and EFI. Does that mean I could possibly install Windows in UEFI mode? Doesn't the SnowLeopard-Install create a small UEFI on a partition on the disk? Or is it just an "empty" partition to prevent MBR-Systems to mess on GPT schemes?

Latest Unibeast works on SL.

Disk Utility will create an EFI partition on a GPT disk.

Hello guys, I'm back. Finally got a Yosemite Install Stick.

Soo, I read that Yosemite won't support VGA. That's a shame cause the only thing on my laptop that's
working is the VGA port to my external monitor.

So is there a kext for enabling VGA on a Laptop... generally? Might the NVIDIA experimental kexts/drivers work?

Will Clover have such a kext already?

At the moment when I want to install Yosemite with the USB stick then it fails after having loaded some kexts (verbose mode) and just restarts the machine.

So any suggestions besides: there is no Yosemite +VGA; these things won't go together ? :|

UPDATE 21.07.2015

Ha, who would have thought: I just got Yosemite working on my R560. Only got the external VGA Monitor but it's working ootb with GraphicsEnabler=Yes. Only have to get Audio to work now then I'm all good.
