I'd like to overclock my 4770K water cooled on Gygabite Z87X-UD5H, is there a topic or a guide for complete beginner? I'm completely new to overclocking and I don't know where to start . In this forum you seems to be all expert ;) could you give me a list of steps to get a basic speed boost with this cpu?

Thanks

I've been looking for something like a beginner's guide to over-clocking and have the 4770K, too. Hopefully, someone can point us in the right direction.

Are you comfortable finding settings in your bios?
If you can tell me your ram, and your water cooler, I can give you good beginning settings for the 4770k and you can push from there

or you can follow this guide

Listen. Every system is different, so one's bios settings/overclock may or may not work for you. It's not wise to blindly follow someone's advice unless they are right next to you with knowledge of your configuration.

Just take your time. Watch Linus Tech tips on YouTube, read guides, and just be patient. When you're finally ready go ahead and start to tinker. I advise anyone not to go for an all out overclock but rather build your way up. Baby steps.

also a noob
i have the same mobo and cpu, also water cooled
gskill trident 2400 memory

i tried over clocking- had some trouble, relied on the auto over clocking settings and that seems the most effective so far. makes the chip a 3.9 and render speeds are fast

whats weird is, i got the chip up to 4.5, but by render speeds when down!! so its not only about the chip speed.

i'm still trying to learn and get tips too, let me know if you figure anything out please

Sounds like that overclock wasn't stable.

4770k Overclocking for total beginners (no windows partition)

Hi guys, is it possible to overclock a Hackintosh without a Windows partition? I've read some basic guides for the i7 4770k that call for running a couple programs in Windows that help you with your overclock settings and results. I would rather not have to add a partition to tweak my CPU and graphics card- is this possible just using BIOS and OS X programs?

Thanks for any help!

Overclocking is done in the bios usually, although some software solutions can help. Koalaman is right above though, every system is different, and every CPU will have slight differences in relation to tolerances and overclock potential. You should have a read of the links already provided and then apply that to your own system. That way you can work out the optimum overclock for your particular setup.

Hi Donkey, I have read all of the links below and they suggest tweaks in BIOS (which is fine, I can do that), but also Windows-only programs. I'm just wondering if it is possible to tweak a Hackintosh in OS X Mavericks alone.
