[Guide] Mavericks Lenovo G580

First I just wanted to say thanks for creating the Mavericks guide for the Lenovo G580. I have a G580 and I bought a cheap AR9285 wifi card for it (since you say this one works)

Only problem is my BIOS apparently has a whitelist and I get a 104 unsupported wifi device message as soon as I turn the laptop on. Do you know of any easy way (without using those complicated BIOS mods) to get it working?

Thank you

you need to remove whitelist in bios , then ull be able to use different wifi card.Go to http://forums.mydigitallife.info/ ask for help.
especially in this form http://forums.mydigitallife.info/printthread.php?t=20223&pp=10&page=371 , im sure admin will help you

Keep in mind that flashing a patched BIOS is dangerous and could brick your computer. It should be done only as a last resort, and only if you're willing to risk breaking your laptop.

@ themaskofwraith -- Thanks.. however I don't have a service manual .. I was hoping all would pretty much be the same since this guide is for a Lenovo G580 and that is exactly what I have ... and since the guide here indicated the AR9285 worked with Mavericks on the Lenovo G580 I thought that the process to get it working would be the same as well..

But I guess with your response, not all G580 are the same either? -- some with i3's , some with i5's (like mine)..

@Rehabman .. thanks.. and yes I do realize that modding the BIOS is a last resort.. and since I'm not that savy with the BIOS I'd rather stick to a USB wifi adapter or keep searching for Kexts that will allow one of my Intel Wifi cards to work or either the AR9285

Please note that Lenovo usually publishes the service manual on their website...

Thanks for your reply. I have Mavericks working now after following your guide. But what I really want to know is this:

1.) If I have the "same" model this guide was made for (Lenovo G580) why wont my AR9285 work and yours does? You didnt have to mod your BIOS did you? Was yours whitelisted/blacklisted?

I really don't want to mod my BIOS. Honestly I dont have the time or smarts to do that and I definitely dont wanna brick the mobo..

2.) Are there any other known half PCI-e wifi cards that DO work with the Lenovo G580 and Mavericks?

I really want to make this as simple as possible being that I got this far with Mavericks

I have a Netgear WNA1000M (realtek chipset) usb wifi adapter but it only works on Snow Leopard (realteks drivers only go up to 10.8)

thanks again

@themaskofwraith

you can disregard my last post. Basically it was a case of "you gtwhat you pay for" and also a lack of knowledge on my part

Apparently there are multiple chipsets or ID's for the AR9285's

The first one I bought was a cheap $6 Azureware AR9285 from eBay. That was the one that my Lenovo G580 didn't like and that gave me the 104 Unspecified error

The 2nd go-'round I bought an AR9285 that was specifically FOR Lenovos for about $10 on eBay. that one works... which is good news that I won't have to mod my BIOS after all!

anyway thanks for the guide...

Hi all,

Thanks again for everyone's input on this so far. I have just a few more questions:

I have Mavericks working flawlessly so far on my Lenovo g580. everything works.. my ONLY problem now is that my bootloader Chimera does not work... I get a boot0 error

I basically have to use my Unibeast USB drive to boot into Mavericks.. I tried with Chameleon and got the same problem

(I have another partition to put Windows on but I want to fix the bootloader first).. I have tried a few solutions on other forums that got me close to fixing it but Mavericks always blacks out when I log in (computer still runs in the background)

So I basically am stuck booting Mavericks with Unibeast drive until I can fix the boot0 error

Can anyone help with that? Thanks

MB35

Thanks RehabMan . That link did in fact fix my boot0 error..
However now that I've fixed that they sent me over to the Tonymacx86 Laptops section

I'd rather not create a new post since this guide here is already for the same model laptop I have

Anyway here is my new issue (and hopefully last):
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

To simplify what is going on:

• I used this tonymacx86 Mavericks Guide for the LenovoG580.. to a T!*(Thanks to everyone who contributed)

• Mavericks boots perfectly but ONLY if I use my Unibeast thumbdrive to boot

• when I try to boot Mavericks from my internal HDD, it actually starts booting -- I get the apple screen and logon screen but then everything goes black (mavericks is still running .. lights are*still on)

• this happens with Chimera 2.2.1 and I've followed the guide here exactly

• but I repeat, I can still boot Mavericks with my Unibeast drive perfectly but obviously this is not the ideal method I want to boot Mavericks. I need the bootloader that is installed to my internal HDD to work without giving me that black screen

Am I missing something? Any assistance with this would be greatly appreciated. Thank you
