Intel recently launched a few fifth-generation Broadwell processors and is now packing it's latest NUC kit with an i5-5250U which can push 4K resolution via Iris 6100 graphics. Apparently, you can print your own lid if you have a 3D printer handy and replace the one that ships with the NUC.

Apple is holding a media event on March 9th which is speculated to revolve around the Apple Watch but there is no word if it plans to reveal a new MacBook product which will feature Broadwell specs.

Keep in mind that OS X doesn't yet support Broadwell CPUs.

You can check the NUC5i5RYH full spec sheet here:

I just bought the Broadwell NUC5i5RYH in hopes of completing my first Hackintosh. I have most of the software needed and was about to start, when I read this post. Does anyone have an update to this post about the support for Broadwell processors? I'll really bummed about this and would like to know if and when OS X will support it. Any help and/or Info would be GREATLY appreciated. :banghead:

If you look at the 10.10.3 post on the front page, it reveals some details :

Support for Broadwell processors
Support for 6000 graphics (Amongst others)

This is good progress in relation to the new NUC's.

What I have not seen confirmed yet, is if the kernel needs to be patched (It certainly did on the previous NUCs), and also not seen anything regarding support for this hardware using Clover or Chimera. I suspect the kernel would need patching.

The NUC model you have looks fairly compatible, but the soldered down Intel Wifi chip certainly will not work and is probably best disabled in the visual bios. Because of this, there is no way to add your own wireless card since there is no additional socket for it. That means either using wired ethernet or using a plugin USB wifi adaptor.

You can see a short thread regarding some information on the new NUC's here.

I have also published several NUC install guides already for the previous generation models. While yours probably wont be exactly the same, they will give you an understanding of what is required. There is also a Clover style guide for the previous generation models too if you search the forums.

Thanks WonkeyDonkey for the post, I really appreciate it. I'll keep watching the Forums for any updates and please let me know if you see or hear anything. Thanks again!

The next goal towards achieving the necessary support will be HD6000 and Broadwell support in the bootloaders. Chimera and Clover.

Once that is complete we will have something to move forward with; or at least enough to start testing and putting an install guide up.
