I currently have 32GB of 1333 RAM in my build. The board, GA-Z97X-UD7-TH , is capable of faster RAM and I'm wondering if the cost of upgrading the RAM would be worth it. My processor is a i7-4790K and graphics are a pretty decent GTX670, so I don't feel that those parts need an upgrade anytime soon.

This system is mainly used for Adobe Premiere editing and ProTools. Overall I'm pleased with the performance, and am just wondering if I'm missing out by using older slower RAM.

I my opinion it is not worth the cost...

However you can run GeekBench 3, (32 bit is free, 64 bit requires a purchase) and compare your machine as it sets today with other machines (running Windows and OS X) by searching the GeekBench data base by the CPU.

Here is the link: http://browser.primatelabs.com/geekbench3/search?dir=desc&q=i7-4790K&sort=multicore_score

Goto page 4 or 5 to see the the OS X benchmarks... note most if not all are 64 bit results.

Good modding,
neil

Edit: Also if your machine is stable and free of the "freeze" problem, then I would stay with your current memory.

not worth the money.

Thanks guys. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing out on some huge performance gain by using RAM from an older machine. Neil I did run Geekbench and I'm right in line with other similar systems; thanks for that tip. I'm going to leave this machine alone for now. It ain't broke so we ain't gonna' fix it!
