Hello,
I'm interested in adding an eGPU on my macbook air through thunderbolt.
I've done some research this is what I've gotten.
I know that it might not be cost efficient, but I would like to see if I can get it running.
For the external chassis

and
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/control ... REG&A=cart
for the thunderbolt adapter
and with an pcie graphic card such as nVidia gtXXX,
will this setup work on the macbook/macbook air with thunderbolt?
also I'm having trouble whether os x will recongzie it and have the drivers for it?

thank you

Thanks for the response,
as in not being possible,
is it the hardware? or the software?

MSI has a solution for this ready which they say should be available in the first half of 2012. It is an aluminum enclosure for installing any pcie graphics card, directly connecting via thunderbolt. They recently showed it at CES.

I'm wondering if this might be a really big thing regarding driver support for Hackintoshes. As especially MacBooks are nowadays very popular notebooks, gaining more and more popularity this external solutions could get OSX far better driver support for graphics cards. OSX finally open for all kinds of graphics cards like Windows?

Sonnet has announced an external PCI-E card chassis that works as a generic TB to PCI-E adapter ( http://www.sonnettech.com/publicfiles/p ... hassis.pdf (PDF)). The only additional limitation would be a 150 W limit for the enclosure. There would still be the standard limitations of what a user would expect for getting regular PC GPU's to work in a Mac Pro and OS X drivers.

Dear lacie123401,

i use my ViDock with the Sonnet Echo and it works very well :)

Without my ViDock 3dMark06: 3600Points and with >18000Points.

If you have any questions about installation etc. go to the ViDock Facebook page :)
