Hi,

This is my first attempt to install MacOS on a PC and it's not promising. I'm following 'iBoot + MultiBeast: Install Mac OS X on any Intel-based PC' instructions and I'm using the retail 10.6.3 disk. I've tried with and without the -x safe mode option, but I only get kernel panics after the grey apple screen shows up. Somtimes the wheel spins for a while, sometimes the machines just freezes and somtimes it reboots by itself. Any ideas before I try another method or just stick with W7 on this machine?

Are all of your BIOS settings correct? Are you you the latest or close to latest BIOS? What type of DVD drive are you installing from?

Boot using -v to find what's causing the kernel panic.

I read somewhere on this forum that disabling the firewire port and USB 3 might be a good idea. Didn't help me though, I just got a different kind of kernel panics.

Thanks for your quick reply.

I guess so. CDROM is first boot device, PHC SATA is AHCI, HPET is 64-bit mode and now I have disabled firewire and USB 3.

I don't know, how do I find out? (see I'm a total noob)

It's a LG one. Any particular brand I should rather be using?

A LOT of text scrolled up the screen. What should I be looking for?

Thanks for you help.

You can download the latest bios for your motherboard from here: http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=3234#dl

This site will tell you how to unpack and install the bios, load optimized defaults and set your bios settings: http://lnx2mac.blogspot.com

Within the bios setup screens you should be able to find you current bios level, probably on the MB Intelligent Tweaker screen.

Turned out my bios was F6, now updated to F10

I changed the bios settings according to this and noticed my drives weren´t listed anymore under Standar CMOS Features, is this normal?
Anyway, I still got kernel panic right away and safe mode just froze the machine. :(

Re: Can't install on GA-P55A-UD6 - kernel panics

FWIW, I swapped the LG SATA DVD drive for a Pioneer A09 IDE drive. Still get kernel panic on normal install, but in safe mode got a ban sign on the grey apple screen and the system hangs.

With the -v option I get after dozens of lines:

ERROR:Firewire unable to determine security-mode: defaulting to full-secure
ApplePS2ControllerStill waiting for root device
Still waiting for root device

Does that tell you anything?

Yes, that's normal, as the drives are not behaving as PATA, but as AHCI.

Re: Can't install on GA-P55A-UD6 - kernel panics

 Apparently I had a bad RAM stick and the installation is going fine now.

Thanks for your help and sorry for the false alarm.
