Hi,

I have messed up my org.chameleon.boot.plist file by choosing the worng card for an Efi string. Now I get a black screen whatever I do (enabling graphics, -x, -F, changing connonections) and even on the installer partition (I run Lion).

How can I undo this stupid changes I made to the org.chameleon.boot.plist file if I cannot see anything?

However I am able to boot using Iboot and the Snowleopard DVD (I have the mac store version of Lion, so no disc to boot on). From there I can access the terminal but I know nothing about this.

I wonder IF I CAN EDIT THE PLIST FILE FROM THE TERMINAL and sort out my problem, because otherwise it looks like full reinstall of Snowl Leaopard + Lion... just because of a EFI string a pain, because all worked but my Hdmi conenction on the Asus 9800 GT.

Can you please help my?????

Help!!!!!!

thanks a lot

Vlad

NB: despite of the technical vocabulary, this is my first hackintosh and I know really little, so if you can, please keep it simple ;)

I posted some links that can provide you some alternative ways to find information
also a link on command line switchs that should be helpfull
and some youtube videos that are very informative on iboot - multibeast - command line options.
Here they are....

But before you do this please look for some YOUtube vids under the name deanwrayUK
of these shortcuts.

Thank you Totenkopf for the links. To be honest I have tried most of the command switches with no luck, or no understanding of how to use them. Whatever I do I end up with a blank screen.

Can you recommand a what switches I should use? GraphicsEnabler does not help. -x get me to an endless booting (grey screnn, apple logo, and a sort of raod sign such as no parking).

There might be one but I do not know which one. all I need to sort out this mess is to remove a view lines from org.chameleon.boot.plist, but I need the machine to display something in order to do that

Or does anyone know how I can get to my org.chameleon.boot.plist from the terminal? Actually, I also have a working windows 7 on the same machine (different HD). Of course, it does not see the mac HD. Is there a way to access the org.chameleon.boot.plist using the windows system? I suppose I would need a tool to see and access the Mac OS drives, and to edit the file.

Any idea?

thanks,

Boot with -s command = single user.
Mount the HD writable as shown.

Or take your Terminal from install.

Type:
cd /Extra

nano org.chameleon.Boot.plist

make your changes. Save.

Voila..

Thanks Unwesen,

It looks exactly like what I need but I tried sudo nano /Extra/org.chameleon.Boot.plist, and nano/Extra/org.chameleon.Boot.plist from the terminal I can access with the install cd, but it is telling me that the command is not found for either nano, duso or both.

The command line in the terminal starts with bash-3.2# or something similar (I am in the office now, cannot see it), if it helps. I am running Lion but booting on Snow Leopard DVD.

Is it anything I do wrong?

thanks a lot for trying to help me!

Well, I have looked for nano everywhere, whic allowed me to learn something about the terminal such as cd, ls etc, but could not find Nano. I am now reinstalling everything from scratch, snow leopard and then Liom. Fortunately I had not yet put anything on the Mac so it is only a big loss of time.
Thanks for your. Help. Castillo interesting in knowing where I would have found nano...
Regards
Vlad

nano is a text editor that is used and shold have been in the seach path when you entered single user mode and mounted the drive R/W as default if R/O

So entering the command nano followed but the file name will dislplay the file so that you can edit - this is a feature built into the CLI interputer you wont find it but its part of the kernal

this was covered in this section of the video -

He even does a little demo

i do know about reinstalling this many times to get past some of these headaches

I tried to do the tasks, I started access the nano and it was possible to edit the chameleon boot plist file, but when I tried to save the file, the nano popped a message that says that the plist is read-only file.

What can I do to edit this file?

I messed up the boot file inserting Efi strings and got a black screen, but I can't edit while the file is read only...

Her is an idea - if you have the OSX DVD installer for the retail version see if you can boot up w iBoot and use the onboard termainal program that is included with it - this also works in LION if you have the TonyMac Boot USB - you may need a usb drive (spare) to copy info to -

Also suggest that you try a BSD boot dvd - runtime version so you can boot from that and see if you have access to the file you need to edit.
Also you may need to copy off the file edit it and copy it back dont forget sudo the file.
