Artist of the site mascot characters?

Hey guys, I remember way back in the day there was information on the site about the artist that created the mascot characters for the site (a Japanese artist maybe?), but I can't find that information any longer. I was just curious if anyone still had that info. They are an integral part of the site's personality and I think their history should be documented, perhaps in the wiki?
