Been a very long time since ive bothered with modding cases, but when a G5 came up available i jumped at the opportunity, and i needed something to do apart from the bathroom and race car. Ive wanted to mod one of these since they first came out back in 2004 or so.

All in all its a pretty easy case to mod, and its not exactly new, so lots of people have gone there before me, so im drawing on a lot of inspiration found elsewhere.

I received the case last night, and stripped it down to the bare shell.
Today i had about an hour and a half spare so i cut up a spare Compaq desktop unit for the motherboard tray, and fitted it up into the case, and also modded the top tray for the PSU. Onto the pics:

As it sits now.

I picked up all the hardware for it over the last couple of days too:

Basically a i7 2600k, 16gb DDR3, and a 6870.
Will be running dual boot Lion and Win7.

I reckon it will take me about another hour to complete and then just have to screw it together.
Need to get a sheet of 1.2mm Alu for the rear panel, as the 2mm that i have just looks like arse, and the 0.8mm is too flimsy.
Also waiting on the Corsair H80 cooler, as AusPost is taking their sweet time delivering it from Amazon.

Had another hour today to do a bit of modding. Quickly fabbed up a back panel plate to attach the uprights together:

Will have to give it a bit of a brushed finish with the wire wheel. But its pretty much done, just popriveted to the backplate, and then bolted to the case.

Also attached the drive cage to the top plate, and built a 2.5" rack for my SSDs:

Last night i had about 30mins to wire up the front panel, which ive done using bits ganked from a junk case. Didnt wire up Firewire, just USB, Audio and power/LED.

Not much to go.
