You could probably get a USB sound that might be a bit easier to use they range from like $20 up to thousands of dollars

For a long time I used a Sound blaster USB sound card the audio was so much better then the onboards.

Yes, you would get better sound if you used a compatible Sound Blaster audio card or USB device.

BUT you need to be careful that you use a supported Sound Blaster card, as not all will work with macOS.

Make sure you do some research before you buy a Sound Blaster device.
