The Thunderbolt hotplug is a problem that has existed for many years, and until now the only way to have working TB devices is to connect them and turn them on before boot.
Finally after a long time some progress has been made.

Hey, any of you got your HDDs hot swappable on Mavericks? I don't and it irritates me...
My setup:
HDD rack connected to motherboard GA-Z87X-UD5H, using the Intel Series 8 Chipset for SATA3 and enabling the Hot Swap and external device...
