Hi,

I'm new to all this so please go easy on me :)

I've burned iBoot to a CD and I've set SATA Emulation to "AHCI" (it was on that by default) and my boot order priority is correct as well. I can't find HPET options in my bios anywhere.

I get to the boot screen and insert the Mac install DVD in and hit F5, hit enter and let it do its thing. As soon as it begins to load the installation DVD I get an error saying

Code:
Unable to find driver for this platform: \"ACPI\".\n"@/SourceCache/xnu/xnu-1504.15.2.iokit/Kernel/IOPlatformExpert.cpp:1387

On that screen it also says "You need to restart your computer. Hold down the power button until it turns off, then press the Power button again." I've tried a few times but I've gotten the same issue. I did see an ACPI thing in Bios that mentioned enable wake up on mouse was enabled. I disabled that but still no luck. Nothing else to do with ACPI is enabled.

Any ideas? It's an HP 8100 Elite desktop. i7 2.80 Ghz and it has 4 GB Ram (so that shouldn't be a problem).

Help will be truly appreciated. I'm retiring my Mac Mini and I badly need a stronger CPU to run Mac on.

Thanks,

Ok so its a HP desktop something something - that is like telling your mechanic that your cars has a problem and when he asks you say to him - "its Blue".

FYI - HP 8100 ELETE Desktop comes in a lot of options - from CPU Ram to IO cards ( HP likes to make the customer Happy)

SO If you have ( still ) Windows on this system that you locate some software to run and it will tell You all about the internals of your hardware.

Then we can assist you! You will need to Google search
EVEREST Free Edition 2.20

This inspection utility which is newer, a Resource tool for inspecting hardware on you system
http://www.piriform.com/speccy

As we don't know what internal hardware you have you may need to run both as the Everest is a bit dated and may not recognize new hardware.
What we need are the CPu specs the Chipsets - network Sound IO for USB etc. And when I say specs who make them and what part numbers they are,

You may also want to Do this - Google search the terms "HP 8100 Elite desktop + hackintosh" and the fist hit should bear you fruit - now this site can not be mentioned in our Forums and no links can be posted as they violate the policys of the FAQ - Rules and Regulations ( you should read that) - this is why I have you do the search - and does not follow the methods that We use. So if you use this method you need to find alternative sources of support.

Thanks for the reply, toten.

Here are the specs. In the mean time I will also look at the guide posted that you asked me to Google.

These should be the key aspects - CPU, Motherboard, Graphics. Let me know if you need any more information.

***EDIT: The link was a no-go. That guy had an existing Lion install and he only did an upgrade. Mine is a fresh install. None of the other results show how to do it for the Elite Desktop 8100 either.

from what I can see we still have some missing information -

here is what we are told from the utility you ran ( which one would be nice to know)

And what should be added to the signature ( most of it )

Some items that we will also need to know is are the 2 Dell Monitors connected via DVI-D ports - or vga - tell us...

The DVD RW AD-7251H5 is this a SATA drive.

How many SATA ports are on the motherboard, and what is connected to them, I think the low profile has 4 sata ports

It says we have a Realtek High Definition Audio - but we will need to know which one of the many that Realtek makes - you may need to
read the chip part number such as ALC892 which would be on the chip.( update u have a ALC261)
You may want to get the (Sound) Voodo kext files from this see second post .
http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/268252-hp-elite-8000advice/

Your BIOS - not sure if HP has anything newer should check and make changes in the BIOS.
Also turn off in the BIOS the onboard Video (disable)
Also in the BIOS suggest you see if you can turn hyper treading off for the install.
You will need to set the sata to AHCi
Power management setting should be S3
HPET ( High Precision Event Timer) should be 64.

We have an Intel 82567LM gigabyte - this could be the same as is in the MultiBeast installer in SL - When you run MultiBeast read the fine print for the Intell 1000 network kext to see if this covers you chip - if not you may want to use this kext w Kext beast to install it.
http://www.osx86.net/view/376-intele1000e.kext.html

The fact that we have an 1156 - triggers something in my head - and should be covered in the install Guide - 1156 chipsets needed something special read documentation.

Also I found this - a link to a online HP Manual - http://www.manualowl.com/m/Compaq/8100/Manual/111358

We have intel 860 CPU 1156 Socket - 4 GB RAM - Radeon HD4550 - Realtec Audio (ALC261) -
We have a Q57 Intel North Bridge chipset.
We have an Intel 82567LM gigabyte network jack.

Hi Totenkopf,

I decided to quit (sort of) :D

I figured I might as well install Mountain Lion instead of Snow Leopard. Of course I still run into issues, such is my luck. I don't get that ACPI error at least :) I'm going to post in the Mountain Lion forum to get those resolved and now thanks to you I have some decent information to provide to the nice folks who may be willing to help a newbie.

Thank you for all your help, man. I'll post the answers to the questions you asked below in my thread there.

How are you going to install Mountain Lion when you can't install Snow Leopard and purchase it?

I have a Mac Mini which came with Lion and I upgraded it to Mountain Lion when that was released. The problem with it is that it runs way too slow and I'm looking to retire it, as the original post says.
