So what you saying is that your build is doing a boot loop - after the inital install - You need to run and update program prior to installing any apple update
software due to the hardware issues w these motherboards - Tony has a page called getting ready for lion -

10.6.8 is problematic on these MB - also you only need to be on 10.6.6 if you are going to lion
have you tried to use the lower versions of the apple update - say 10.6.5 - these are available from apple support. Goggle 10.6.5.update

In 10.6.8 apple installed newer kexts for the newer chipsets and the sandy bridge CPUs - if you have a Ivy Bridge cpu you may not be successful getting to 10.6.8
Many issues w the HD graphics so if you can turn that off that may help.

Try to boot with these boot switches -v -f or -v -f -x or -v -f
also you may need to use the alternative switchs for graphics modes spec'd out in tony install guide iBoot and Multibeast - IE graphicsenabler=yes
(spelling)

Also do you get the same results if you boot w iBoot cd and then boot from the osx drive - use switches here too
Take pictures and post back

Some information on the BootX (Apple) process or what happens when you press that power button.

I had a hell of a time even installing on that motherboard.

I'm now running 10.6.8 on it, but I had to install the system onto a Z68XP motherboard and then move the hard drive. Had the boot loop issue, though I was able to load Linux without any problems onto another HD with that board, so it's not necessarily the board. Was using an 8400GS graphics card, yanked that and put in a Asus GeForce210 silent (about $36 from Newegg), and now have no problems with it. Though people have gotten the 8400 to work, the 210 was out of the box functional, using Multibeast.

The first thing you should try would be to update the bios to the latest version. It's pretty simple, you need a usb thumbdrive and a computer with an internet connection. Boot into bios, update bios with the thumbdrive.

Make sure your hard drive isn't one of those "advanced format" drives from WD (boot 0 issue), best to use something smaller, or better yet, a good SSD.

I will say that iboot will get your system to load, you really need to run multibeast (at least once, with just the stuff you need, preferably nothing less or more) and then restart to get all that OSX goodness all up in there.

Find a guide from a Z68X board (common as dirt, similar enough) and use that, but use the DSDT for the Z68A, for the bios version you are using (again, upgrade to the latest bios).

As you stated your MB is a GA-Z68AP-D3 and I ASSuME that you are using a I3 or I5 cpu and not a xeon - then you need to modify the install process

at iBoot boot and swap out the cd for the Apple 10.6.x DVD and press F5 wait for drive to scan the dvd and enter these command switchs
"-v -f PCIRootUID=0" you may want to add the -x switch for safe mode - as mentioned in one of my links from a prior post.

Once you get to the install select the disk utilils and partition the drive.

follow these steps.

Of course we assume that you have a dsdt file from the database -

How to due a sandybridge cpu w compatable hardware OSX hack 10.6.8 build.

Typical installation steps are:
1) iBoot + Disk Utility + install Snow Leopard DVD (perform install via DVD) reboot
2) iBoot + Installed OSX HDD (boot with iBoot and loading OS via newly installed HDD) - get welcome screen
3) Run Update Helper and Reboot?
4) iBoot + Installed OSX HDD, run combo update 10.6.8 , DO NOT reboot
5) Run Multibeast and select option which are required to your board.
6) Reboot w/out iBoot

Audio/Ethernet/DSDT

DSDT and BIOS firmware must match to the corresponding number.

------------------------------------------------------------

You still need to use the Tonymacx86 iBoot Multibeast guide but you need to follow these steps as you have a sandybridge cpu - maybe?
take pictures and post

If you havent seen this yet its summer reruns.....

Some time ago we used to use a NVenabler utility and I think this was added to the video options in multibeast

As its been a while You may want to see if that is what is in MultiBeast or download the NVenabler util to install those features.

Also which version of the OSX 10.6.8 did you down load - size and date -

See this link for versions that Apple has released.

THis is a list of links on the various 10.6.8 updates

Hi~

so weird ~
i'm fail to install the update combo 10.6.8

3. Run Update Helper and Reboot

4.install combo update 10.6.8 (failed to install)

so i guess the problem is my 9800gt graphic card?

Not necessary - some users have reported that they have failed the 10.6.8 update in a similar manner - run program and cant finish the install.

Some uses have reported that their is an expiration date on the Apple update file - select file and do a Get Info on that file to see if it has an experation date and if so adjust the date in the calender prior to install of the utility - then change date back and re run Multibeast options

THis was reported by many users on the old Tonymacx86 site which you can locate w this - legacy.tonymacx86.com and seach for failed osx10.6 8 installs

Also - you may want to check this site out - http://www.osx86.net/video-graphics/16059-nvidia-9600gt-9800gt-setup-help-needed-snow-lion.html

they mention updating to the latest version of chimera / chameleon

oh ya

my cpu is i5 24050s

very rare cpu

will it cause the major problem?
