Upgrading my G3 to G5 mod WorkLog

Yesterday. Yesterday was magic. I had lots of cool stuff come in the mail. I giggled while opening everything. Here is my swiftech CPU waterblock, resovoir, pump, and radiator, my second Radeon 5870, 2x EK FC5870 GPU blocks, an EK bridge for the graphics cards, tubing, and other miscellaneous...

    Anybody have spare G5 parts?

I knew that perforated metal would be very expensive, and quite difficult to get the exact pattern, so I hadn't even bothered to look there. I did look at some small pieces of diamond plate, but eventually decided against it. As for where I cut the PCI slots, the top 4 match up perfectly with...

who says we cant act like that? I talked to my contact in brief and he had mentioned that even though the company went to an all intel shop in 2008, there are still some PPC macs in storage. I'll see him again soon though

Upgrading my G3 to G5 mod WorkLog

Why thank you. I get to meet some Apple engineers and technicians who work in my company when I head up to New York tomorrow. I'm going to see if they will happen to have any decommissioned G5's so I can patch up my hole.

    Anybody have spare G5 parts?

Thanks guys, I've been looking on ebay, but I really don't want to spend a huge amount on alot of parts I dont need. Especially with the shipping. Good idea about the PC recycling though! @SnapMan: Ahh, completley slipped my mind! I rewrote my post now so it should be fine.

    Anybody have spare G5 parts?

Hey, does anybody happen to know where I can find a spare front L piece for the Power Mac G5? All I need is the front half with all the holes in it. I want to use it to patch up this hole in the back of my G5. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Upgrading my G3 to G5 mod WorkLog

So I got a new piece of hardware for my Power Hack, and since I had some time to work on it, I get to bring you another update! I picked up a used Sony BWU-200S Blu-Ray Burner! So what was the first thing I did with my new expensive drive? That's Right! I voided the warranty! I ripped it open...

    Has it been done?

What would look pretty neat is if you can find 2 mac mini cases, and stack them(especially if the bottom was a server and had no disc drive slot). An awesome case modder did something like that with a pair of old linksys routers!

Mac Pro Case Modding - few newby questions

motherboard trays let you do something like this: the rear ports and card slots are on the tray, and therefore, it gives you a clean look while giving you easy access to all the ports. to compare, when I did this with a G3 Power Mac without a tray, I had to offset the motherboard, and it left...

    Blue Tooth Adapter

I can confirm this Bluetooth adapter to work with no kexts or anything. it was small enough that I forgot about it and left it in when I installed OSX. then I saw the bluetooth icon, and tested it. everything works, and for less than $2, its worth the wait from Hong Kong. Additionally, the case...

Upgrading my G3 to G5 mod WorkLog

While waiting for my JB weld to dry, I decided to paint the motherboard tray and I/O shield metallic blue, since everything inside the case will be a nice electric blue color! 2 Days after the JB weld was put on, I decided to continue working on the I/O panel, so I used the jigsaw and cut...

So my Mountain Mods Tray came in, and I realized I made one little mistake when ordering... And this thing took so long to to get here, I swear, FedEx must've hired someone to walk it across the country to my house. There is no way I am returning this... and in comes in what I call "The...

Lots of m3 nuts/bolts! most of the rivets I drilled out aren't very necessary, seeing that there's also about a million screws holding the case together

So the first pic below is what I will be trying as my basic layout that I am going to build off of. In addition to what you see here, my 5x 2.5" hard drives will be where they were originally located. I still have to work out radiator space. What luck I have! I chose M3 hardware because I do...
