That seems to have been the problem. I patched it on the XPS with the version I had installed on the 32GB USB, and now it works just fine! I can even boot off of it! Thank you so much man, I wish I had your skills LOL

By the way, I managed to install OS X on a 32GB usb drive just to get somewhere and get my devices working. So far it works pretty well, but it still can't see my SSD. From Ubuntu I cloned the flash drive with dd to the SSD but when I boot it gives me a "Still waiting for root device" error...
