Believe me I have, 3 times now. The one difference with my system is that I have 2x GTX 1080Ti, which might be causing the issue (since WindowServer is related to GFX cards). I'd remove one but they're watercooled and stuck together...

Unfortunately I'm stuck trying to boot the install USB,
I get an error message saying com.Apple.WindowServer exited with abnormal code 1.

This works for me and I'm able to boot to the desktop once, but as soon as I turn it off or try to reboot, it's broken again, and I have to go through the process once more (copying back the kexts and moving them again with these command lines).

Update: Actually, setting GraphicsEnabler to "No" works and gets way better results. No glitching (just takes 15s longer to boot to the desktop, but I think I can live with that!)
Update: I updated my system definition from MacPro 3,1 to 5,1 (and then 6,1) which seems to give me much better performance (2000 LuxMark score per card. Still showing up as "AMD Radeon HD Tahiti XT Prototype Compute Engine" though).
I still have video glitches coming up after a few minutes of use.
