Thanks, I'll have a go with memtest, see what I can find. The fact that only 1 stick is fully recognized seems common from what I could read on here. I also read that having all 4 slots occupied seemed to solve the problem? Can anyone confirm this? -edit : just ran memtest...I guess I should...

Hello all, Proud owner of a fresh new hack, which also happens to be my first computer build, I have now reached the state of post-installation tuning. While everything works nicely (graphics, SSD and all the jazz), this is bugging me: Activity monitor (as well as iStat pro and "top" command)...
