I just completed the update from 10.11.4 to 10.11.5 on Z170a-UD5/6700K/GTX960 using System Definition 17.1.
I also had trouble with the Nvidia update, and was getting black screen (responsive) at boot.
With 10.11.4, I had previously successfully resolved the System Definition 17.1 issue...
Ok, I just finished my first successful build and now I've got the bug. Coming in the mail is a 9530 and I'll be diving in next week.
This will be a dual boot.
Thus far, I have the following game plan.
1. Update factory 8.1 to Windows 10
2. Obtain the now working/registered...
I am in a similar boat as you and just recently completed my first PC/Hackintosh build using similar components.
I cannot answer your questions regarding the use of the hardware. But I thought I'd share my experience.
If you are a total noob (like I am), than expect there to be a learning...
Yogi, I have a GTX960 and had a great deal of difficulty getting it to work, as well.
Method 1 from this post was what solved the problem for me.

Ok, I had this same problem. I had installed 2x8GB Corsair Vengeance LPX on a Z170a-UD5 with 6700k. El Capitan was only recognizing the memory as 2x4GB.
I followed the steps above, and got OS X to recognize the entire 16 GB, however with the weird error message quoted below.
I was able...
I just built my first PC (and first Hackintosh) off the April Buyers Guide, as follows:
Z170a-UD5
6700k
2x8GB Vengeance LPX
Samsung 950 (for Windows 10)
Samsung 850 (for El Capitan)
GTX 960
TP Link Wireless
Good news is that OS X is working awesome. And I'm able to dual boot. But the way...
Thanks Jerivalu,
I looked into this further last night and found that I had accidentally installed Windows 10 on the Samsung 950 as Legacy boot...duh.....
I tried installing the NTFS driver and it didn't seem to help. I get stuck in the blinking cursor screen when I try to boot Windows from...
I followed ammulder's very clear instructions on this thread: http://www.tonymacx86.com/threads/guide-el-capitan-on-the-skylake-h170n-wifi.178197/
Otherwise if you do want iCloud/iMessage/etc., then you must further customize config.plist. For more details on this process see How to Fix...
Thanks Jerivalu!
I just completed a successful 10.11.4 install with the below hardware, straight off the April 2016 buyers guide:
Z170a-UD5 (not the TH version)
6700k
gtx960
2x8GB Corsair Vengeance LPX
TP Link wireless card
Samsung 850 (for OSX)
I also added a Samsung 950 to the build to dual...
Hi - I'm having the same problem.
The build is straight off the April 2016 build list. Z170-UD5, 6700k, 2x8 GB, GTX 960, TP-Link wi-fi. I have installed Windows 10 on a Samsung 950 and it is working flawlessly.
I have now installed El Capitan on a separate Samsung 850. It installed...
