    macOS 10.13.4 Update

Worked fine for me. I had skipped the .3 upgrade due to issues reported for the Nvidia drivers, but since I more often use my MBP, I decided to go ahead. Of course, unusably slow until the nvidia drivers installed. I had to patch the config.plist for USB support using a post I found here to...

What was your primary reason for building a hackintosh?

Back when I bought the 2008 Mac Pro, the price was very competitive for what you got. Wasn't any more than equivalent hardware from companies like Dell or building for myself. And got native Mac support with it. I need to find a use for it, it has been unused for nearly a year now.

What was your primary reason for building a hackintosh?

I wanted an expandable Mac to replace my 2008 Mac Pro with capable CPU and 4K display. I see now that a top of the line iMac would have sufficed, since it can go to 32GB, but I can expand mine to 64GB later if I want. Of course, the iMac would cost $3599+tax at apple.com, and I paid less than...

    Replacing a driver

I've been busy. I'll give that a try. I thought I tried something similar, but it has been several weeks. I'm also giving a try of disconnecting everything USB related except my keyboard and bluetooth adapter. Thanks, Kevin

    Replacing a driver

Ever since I built my computer last year, I have had a problem I haven't been able to track down. Random shutdowns for no apparent reason. Can last 2 days before shutting down, can last 2 weeks. So has made it difficult to troubleshoot. The only hint I can come up with is once or twice last...

    macOS 10.12.2 Update

This update worked fine for me. I finally did it yesterday. The first update, I ended up having to do a bootable USB stick to upgrade, since the store App Store upgrade failed. This time, I downloaded the combo update DMG, and the nvidia upgrade. Just ran it, after it finished I installed the...

UniBeast: Install macOS Sierra on Any Supported Intel-based PC

I was able to install Sierra pretty easily once I gave up on the direct upgrade method. Did similar steps I did for Yosemite earlier this year. Disable in BIOS all my other drives (to avoid risk of wiping home directory). Fresh install. When it hung after first reboot I thought of network...

    Windows on separate disk?

It depends on your BIOS. It is perfectly fine to have separate drives for windows and OS/X. In which case, during installation, I would have only 1 drive connected to ensure neither install messes up the other. If you change the boot order, then it should continue to boot the desired primary...

    Success Hackintosh i7 GA-Z170X-UD5 TH - i7-6700K - GIGABYTE GTX 970

Sounds close to my configuration. I had to have both nvidia settings turned on, AND I had to set the computer to Mac3,1. iMac 17,1 didn't work for video.

    El Capitan on GA-Z170X-UD5 Success

What performance am I losing having my Z170x UD5 TB in Mac 3,1 mode vs Skylake? I ended up having to use Mac3,1 to get my GTX 970 to work accelerated. Thanks, Kevin

Can I have Windows and OSX?

I was set for UEFI on my recent build, installed Windows 10, then found it was formatted MBR. So Clover couldn't boot it. I had done this before I saw references about how you were supposed to partition and format it first under OS X to force this. I created a GUID partition of all FAT under...

    Adjusting Screen Resolution

The computer does a pretty good job of detecting the resolution of the monitor. By default, it scales to appear to be a standard resolution. System Preferences/Displays/Scaled, and you can adjust how large the text is. I just received a 4K monitor yesterday, and all it took was plugging it...

"Nvidia Chip model 5 Mb" :((

On my build, I get sound using "Internal Speakers" if I power down first. Windows will disable sound under OS X if I just do a restart into El Capitan.

Solving NVIDIA Driver Install & Loading Problems

It was either, or both, those options. I had seen a reference to using iMac17 for the Skylake HD530 support when I built my system. Not visibly drawing on screen now. Shows the 4GB of VRAM, and VLC will actually do the video portion of a movie and not just sound. The only known issue I...

Solving NVIDIA Driver Install & Loading Problems

I just installed my new EVGA GTX 970 card today after downloading the current Nvidia web drivers. I've used Clover Configurator to add the nv_disable=1 and nvda_drv=1 to the boot arguments, and my video performance is terrible. I have the i7-6700k CPU, Gigabyte GA-Z170x-UD5 TH motherboard, 32GB...

    Help on Z170M-D3H / i7 6700k / HD 530

I'm doing Fusion on my Mackintosh, but not for my boot drive. I just moved my SSD & HD combo from my Mac Pro (after backing up all the data on it to be safe), and it was immediately recognized. I keep my home directory on this large drive, and leave the 500GB SSD as my boot drive. If I have...

GA-Z170x ud5 will not boot from USB

I had a problem with boot order this weekend. I wanted to boot back into Windows after attaching all the hard drives and closing up the box. I could NOT boot Windows until I went into the BIOS and "disabled" my Mac boot drive. Once the BIOS knew about it, I can now boot either drive by going...

[GUIDE] Jerivalu’s Build: Fresh 10.11.5, Z170X-UD5 TH, 6700k, Intel HD 530, Thunderbolt, Dual Boot

In other words I have to go ahead and buy a thunderbolt device first just to verify it will work? :) I bought it for the future, so by the time I need one, I should see any workarounds (other than doing it in Windows first) that I need.

[GUIDE] Jerivalu’s Build: Fresh 10.11.5, Z170X-UD5 TH, 6700k, Intel HD 530, Thunderbolt, Dual Boot

I've followed much of this. My 6 USB3 ports (2 front, 4 rear) work with a thumb drive I installed. 2 of my 4 USB 2 ports on the back work with the card. The other 2 USB2 ports are in use by the keyboard/mouse. iMessage doesn't work, but i haven't downloaded all the tools yet to get it...
