I attached both: the one that worked before the update and one I generated using realtekALC.
I re-applied the system update and installed the AppleHDA.kext that I confirmed was working before the update. Audio works again. Not sure why the realtekALC script wasn't able to produce a working kext...
UPDATED! Edit is below.
1. No sound, but have devices in System Preferences. Do not dual-boot; OS X only. Worked previously until I rebooted after a system update. Tried to reapply audio fixes like I did after a fresh install, but would not work. Use HDAEnabler1.kext to set layout-id 1.
2. OS...
I'm not sure what graphics card to recommend to you. I use an ASUS-branded GeForce GT 610. It requires a kext edit to get it to work, but once enabled it's fully functional.
My best recommendation would be a card that requires no kext editing to get to work. I think the later GT(X) 600-series...
[SUCCESS] Dell Vostro 220 | OS X 10.8.4
Dell Vostro 220
Update 6/6/2013: I updated to 10.8.4 from Software Update and everything still works as expected. Notably, the ASUS-branded GT610 no longer requires a kext edit to work; it is supported out-of-the-box!
Hey folks. Been lurking...
The audio quality using VoodooHDA isn't as good when compared to a pure AppleHDA solution; at least, both of the machines on which I've used VoodooHDA.
To clarify: is that zip of kexts only to enable HDMI audio out on that model of graphics card? Or should it also enable the ALC662 on-board chipset? If the latter, then I am unable to get it to work on a Dell Vostro 220 with the ALC662 chipset. I'll keep hunting around for a solution besides...
NVIDIA GT610 - 10.8 Fix
Make sure GraphicsEnabler is turned off and try again. If that doesn't work, then that particular card from that vendor may not work with the kext as provided.
//edit: This was supposed to be a reply to bakerall.
Yeah, testing to see if you get audio. If the headphone port works in Ubuntu and you're only using the headphone port, try plugging your headphones into the line out port in the back and see if you get audio.
NVIDIA GT610 - 10.8 Fix
The original post in this thread contains the instructions to patch the original kext. You just need to add the device ID for your card into Info.plist.
I have followed the instructions and I'm still having trouble getting audio to work. I successfully (I think; there were no errors) patched my AppleHDA.kext -- both the binary and the layout files. Both ALC662HDA.kext and AppleHDA.kext are loaded at boot. My DSDT contains the required HDEF edit...
NVIDIA GT610 - 10.8 Fix
I modified the stock 10.8.2 kext and patched the Info.plist using instructions in the OP. After installation, my GT 610 worked again.
I've attached the modified kext.
NVIDIA GT610 - 10.8 Fix
Doesn't look like the patched kext attached to the OP works in 10.8.2. I got everything installed and working great, but then made the mistake of upgrading to 10.8.2. ML KPs on normal boot and when I boot verbose without caches, it just hangs after everything is loaded...
I have the same issue after installing 10.6.8 on my GA-EP45-UD3L. The wireless card is a PCI card with a Broadcom BCM4318 chipset. System Profiler identifies it as 3rd party, but I cannot turn AirPort on.
The card works fine OOTB on all version of SL from 10.6.0 to 10.6.7. After applying the...
