since a lot of People seem to be interested in these Handoff compatible cards, I just wanted to tell you, where I bought mine a while ago, why I didn't just order at OSXWIFI, as well as some experience with it.
I was unable to order it from Taobao or the US, since I live in the EU and...
First, this mod looks amazing. Are you really going to build that HexCore in there? What Motherboard will you use?
Also, are you serious about buying a Retina iMac just as a display? Is a 4k Display simply not enough? Or do you need the high (5K) resolution for work?
I've used a PCIe-Adapter with an extra cable for Bluetooth with this card: "Broadcom BCM94331CD". The card worked out of the box, but Handoff didn't. I had the use the Continuity Activation Tool and it worked. However, I wasn't able to receive calls from my iPhone, because I had to be loged in...
I'm using the BCM94331CD as well, how ever in a PCIe-Adapter, where I have to connect Bluetooth over a extra USB-Cable, while WiFi goes over PCIe and it works out of the box, even Handoff does, after I used the Activation Tool.
I personally would also appreciate a "smaller" resolution, in exchange for more "horsepower". In my opinion, the iMac should have never been slimed down like that. I mean, how many people really would need a thinner "AllInOne", which essentially is just a display with a computer built in, so 90%...
Looks like a very nice project, I will definitely follow it, I'm interested, where this is going.
Oh, and there are also "Nuc-like" computers with a dedicated GTX 760. If someone could cool this properly, you could really get a "beast" of an iMac.
