Hey guys, My G5 project is almost done. Just left is cable sleeving and mounting the hot-swap bay along with some fans and LEDs. I got conversion parts from the Laser Hive and I laser cut a hot-swap bay using my university's laser cutter.

Here's some progress pics.

That hotswap bay . I would love to have something like that for my g5 mod.

Thanks guys! I really appreciate it. I'm on winter break now, so hopefully I can get crackin' on finishing the mod completely.

I got around to mounting the bay the other day. I found some parts I had lying around to make it a "tool-less removal." Problem now is, is that my SATA power cables are just slightly too big to fit behind the bay. Looks like I'll have to do some custom cables. Also, I have some new white LED fans on the way for intakes. I want to swap all my other fans to keep the same color scheme eventually.

Nice job Nessie!

The hot swap looks a little familiar (!) but with some nice tweaks. Are you using it without any support at the bottom? And if so, have you had any issues with it like that all?

Also, curious on whether you glued the swapper - I use threaded inserts on mine which double up as fan mounts in some places to keep everything together as I found using an interference fit between the acrylic sheets gave results that were a bit variable.

Great work and looking forward to seeing any more updates.

Thanks! The design is based off of Trhooper123's bay. So far the bay has held up OK, kind worried because I used 2 thicknesses of acrylic due to cost concern. It is held together with acrylic cement. Right now I'm using the excess laser cut pieces as the guides for the hard drives. I plan on 3D printing some guides soon-ish so that they have a better fit.

nice drive bay:thumbup: keep it up, looking good
