I'm building a new DAW based around a 4790k and GTX 960. It'll be a dual boot, Windows for gaming and general usage and OSX Yosemite purely for Logic X.
I want the mobo (Z97 ?) to be a proven hack and most suitable for DAW use.
Any advice or tips before I go any further ??
Cheers, Rob.

Okay.... Anyone using the z97 chipset in their DAW ?
Any issues or advantages ?

I have a Gigabyte GA-Z97-UD5H Motherboard, an i7 4790k processor, Geforce GTX 760 2GB, 16 GB of RAM crucial balistics...and this setup is I believe quite future proof. I use Logic Pro X 10.1.1 and Ableton Live 9 with a lot of ease, plenty of processorpower in reserve. Had a few issues (freezes) with the 4 dimms of RAM installed, but the latest BIOS version cleared that out.
I use Focusrite Scarlett 18i20 + ADA8200 + Focusrite Saffire LE + iConnectMidi4+ + Apogee Jam together as an aggregate device, and I can barely see the CPU meter move while recording 20+ tracks of audio at the same time, each track fully loaded with plugins of course ;^)

Good news... I'm weighing up the mobo choice between Gigabyte GA-Z97MX-Gaming 5 and the Asus Asus Maximus VII Gene atm...

Absolutely no problems with a Gigabyte GA-Z97X-UD3H, Intel i7 4790K and Gigabyte GTX 970 G1. I use Logic too as my main DAW.

Also, if you have a FireWire interface, you might want to check this PCIe to FireWire adapter: http://www.tonymacx86.com/buying-advice/59767-firewire-800-400-card-own-100-compatibility.html

I'm using that with an Edirol FA-66.
