I had got my custo working well, but I kept getting crashes in all sorts of apps.

So I reinstalled the packages file from Mountain Lion USB, as I read in another post that a reinstalling this would fix isssues with safari crashes etc. (for some people) didn't really make a difference. Also added cuda as I thought it was graphics card related (as firefox would crash with a device id reason).

So I went for a full reinstall, and now I get kernal panics and apps crashing randomly and also finder crashing and failing to restart, also sleep has gone weird now (which is odd before it worked flawlessly).

So this is what I have:

GA-H77-DS3H (F6 BIOS update)
i5 3570k
EVGA GeForce GT640 2GB
San Disk Extreme 120GB
8GB Corsair RAM (Corsair CMZ8GX3M2A1600C9B 8GB 1600Mhz CL9 DDR3 Vengeance Memory)
SyBA PEX30009
2TB Baracuda

Setup with:

GraphicsEnabler=No
PCIRootUID=0 (If this is 1 or 0 it makes no difference the system still boots and I get the same issues!)

Multibeast 5 setup:
UserDSDT or DSDT-Free Installation
Drivers -> Audio -> Realtek -> Without DSDT -> ALC887 -> v100302 Current
Drivers -> Miscellaneous -> FakeSMC
Drivers -> Network -> maolj's AtherosL1

I have downloaded memTest for OSX and run it in single user mode, safe mode etc. and I always get this result:

Could this be a BIOS setting issue? I cleared the CMOS and started again and just set it to auto, all I have done is set the SATA to the correct mode and turned off the internal graphics plus set PCI as prefered graphics.

I can't see it as anything else now, as other people don't seem to get the constant crashing with similar setups on the same board I just wanted to check to see if anyone else runs memtest and gets the same results (i.e. I'm not convinced memtest is working correctly, and would like a second opinion!).

In the console log fies for core services has a log like this:

Same for finder, all crashes have:

Exception Type: EXC_BAD_ACCESS (SIGSEGV)

Yes I could post full logs but it seems to be always the same reason!

I read that this type of exception maybe memory related so does this confirm that I have faulty ram?

Any help would be great as at the moment I have a useable system until I run a few apps and do something that maybe memory intensive!

Ok ran memtest86 from boot USB, came back with:

Error confidence value: 118
4026880 errors on 10 passes (still going)

000a0e10080 - 000a0e13ff8

Looks like its hardware related then! Definitely have 1 module not working correctly.

Well got some replacement RAM, ran memtest 2 full tests was fine ran the OSX specifc terminal one, worked fine results were:

All tests passed!

So now the computer seems fine! No crashes yet and everything has been running for 5 hours! :) Now just to look at the USB 3 ports lol

digitalanalogue, I had similar problems and it turned out I also had a faulty RAM module.

I had following symptoms:

- Frequent kernel panics.

- External or internal disks didn't mount.

- External or internal disks needed to be verified or repaired (then Verify Disk or Repair Disk function didn't solve the problem).

- Constant freezing.

- Apps crashed on start.

After running memtest (thanks kduvernay) it showed one of the modules was faulty. I've removed the module and have been problem-free for several days now. Fingers crossed.
