Thanks Rehabman. It now runs much cooler. One problem remains, if I close the laptop monitor it seems to go into some wierd state, reopening the lid does not wake the laptop up, I have to force a power cycle. Any suggestions? thanks, sridhar

This is how I am attempting to boot. I plugged in the USB, in the screen where the "Mavericks" and "USB" icons appear, I choose "USB" then type -v -f this brings me to the installer screen. Is this not the correct procedure? thanks, srydy

Thanks for the link. If I attempt to boot from USB, it brings up the OS installation screen (see attached), does this mean I have to reinstall the OS? Will I lose all the data? Or am I doing something wrong? -srydy
