Hey, I'd suggest you to record a video and try to take a screenshot at the exact moment it stuck before restarting. I had the exact same issue after starting the update and still managed to found a fix myself.
Try recording a video, it'll help me a lot.
I have a dGPU, and still I faced the same issue with iMac16,2.
I will save the EFI folder in a USB and test out the iMac 17,1 later. Seems like the best option for me with a Haswell dGPU. Thanks.
