Same thing happened to me experimenting (learning OC). I finally read that the default language in OC is Russian and must be changed with an editor. Since the language had changed on all of my installation sticks, I needed to clear CMOS on my motherboard to get rit of the Open Core option in...
Got sick of update problems. Created a new install Catalina (10-15-4) flash drive using newest UniBeast. After installation, I used the new MultiBeast (Clover 5107) to make new installation bootable, change to my iMac 18.2 setting, activate sound, USB and internet. The only thing I need to do...
I created a USB installation drive using the present UniBeast and renaming the downloaded version of Catalina that was saved in Applications to Mojave. Once completed, I renamed the created installation to Catalina. It works.
Upgraded to Catalina 10.15 (19A583) without any issues. All programs I use (iMessage, iCloud, Internal Speakers) worked after upgrade.

I upgraded a fully functioning Mojave to Catalina Beta and now...

As far as I know, the old method of installing kexts does not work in Catalina.
Edit: added clarification

Note: Upgraded from 10.12.6 to 10.13 running a Crucial M4 SSD with trim enabled. No problems.
Have a fully functional 10.3 with APFS file system. Converted to HFS+ by saving EFI to desktop and cloning with CCC (will not allow cloning a Recovery Partition) to another drive (SSD). Installed...
