My Acer laptop doesn't have an ethernet port (I doubt all S3-391 models do). I am currently using a Realtek 8188CUS USB Wifi adapter (and installed the official Realtek Mac driver from the website) to get internet connection. As such, I cannot use the Apple App Store (which apparently requires an ethernet port). I have been getting the App Store error "an unknown error has occurred" in response. Is there any way to go around this?

- I have tried the PCIRootUID fix (using both 0 and 1 values).
- I installed PDANet and have it configured so that it was eth0.
- I have tried using EFI Studio, but that doesn't work because it doesn't recognize an ethernet device (going back to the fact that I have no ethernet port/card/adapter).

I have been spending hours trying to solve this issue (started learning about Hackintosh just a day/two days ago). It would really be helpful for me to have App Store running so I can download Xcode and other developer apps (I ultimately made a Hackintosh to make IPhone apps - I'm an Android developer/Freshman College student trying to see if I can use more powerful machines aside from a Mac Mini - the most economic Apple solution). Thank you in advance!

Without a working Ethernet port, you need a supported WiFi recognized as AirPort.

Oh, sorry. I thought the PCI Half Mini guide meant for it to be a Plug-and-play solution. So this means I'll have to buy a PCI card and open my Acer Netbook, installing it, right?

Will these cards snugly fit inside where the Broadcom network module was once in? Or will this be a plug-it, fix the authorization problem, un-plug, and reinstall old Broadcom module solution?

I found this card http://www.amazon.com/Wireless-Atheros-AR5BHB92-H-300Mpbs-802-11a/dp/B0098T2RIM. It seems to be a solution.

You have a very similar laptop as I do. Mine is S3-391-6046 with the i3-2367M 1.4ghz. In order to change the internal wifi card, I needed to replace the SSD/WiFi daughter board because my WiFi is soldered onto the board. So before you purchase a half pci wifi card, check your internals to see if you need to change the daughter board.

It can be complicated. First you should inspect your machine to be sure it is a half-mini PCIe. Or at least check your service manual if Acer makes it available.

Also, it could be that your machine BIOS implements a whitelist where only certain cards are allowed... easy enough to find out once you get the card.

Thanks Rehabman! I decided to risk it and bought this one http://www.ebay.com/itm/370964266007. I'd be so happy if this works (I'll receive the module on Thursday - fast shipping!).

The success of turning hackintoshing an Acer Aspire S3 ultrabook makes me fearless to proceeding to make a custom and powerful desktop build!

Thank you again for the great help and a great/supportive community!
