So, a coworker came to me, and asked me if it was possible to build a Hackintosh for less than $1k, I said yes. In hindsight, I slightly regret this for my first ever Hack build.

The parts:
Intel Pentium G3258
Gigabyte H97M-D3H
Corsair Vengeance DDR3 1600MHz 2x4GB
Deepcool Neptwin HSF
Asus GTX 660 DCU2/OC
2 x WD Blue 1TB 7200RPM
Cheap Antec mATX chassis
Rosewill 80+Bronze 550W PSU

The issue, updated to the most recent Unibeast and Multibeast. Loaded optimize values in the bios, disabled the virtualization in the BIOS, ran -x -v GraphicsEnabled=No, PCIRootUID=0, maxmem=4096, PCIRootUID=1, npci=0x2000, and variations of those, to now avail. The only step I can think to take next, is quite simply, try iBoot, and see if that works. However, that will have to wait until tomorrow, as my optical drive is at home. *sigh*

Any other suggestions I can try? Is there something really simple I am overlooking?

Yes, you didn't search this site to see if the Pentium you're using would work
with Mavericks. It won't. Get one of the cpus from the buyer's guide and the
install will work. A core I3 is a good choice.

This makes me a sad panda. You are right though, I did a cursory search to see if Haswell would work, not really looking much further than that...

If it's still within the return period. Exchange it for one of these:
http://www.amazon.com/Intel-i3-4360-Processor-Cache-BX80646I34360/dp/B00J2LIFDC/ref=zg_bs_229189_21

Clocked at 3.7 GHz and 4M cache it's really the best performing budget CPU.

2 cores and 4 threads and no need to overclock. Can even be used for gaming.

He was planning on upgrading to a 4690K in a few weeks, since he wants to over clock with the drive (unattached during install attempts) that has windows on it. Oh well, this will make him sad, but at least now we know...

Then the person you were building this for should just start out with a 4690K and a Z97 mobo
so that overclocking is possible. Not understanding the reasoning behind this. :?:

He is a beginner, and wants to do it his way. Basically, had I researched the Pentium issue first, we would have started there, but he wanted a Hack quickly. However, he wants it a certain way, and since it's his money, I can only argue until I'm blue in the face so much. *shrugs* However, I almost have him talked into upgrading to a Z97 board later on, he just wants it affordable, but with potential. Skimp here, spend there, and expand out where needed down the road I guess. Also, he doesn't pay attention well when trying to teach him about putting it all together. He just sat there and texted with his girlfriend, while I am trying to teach him an important life lesson that he will need, seeing how he wants to get into the world of customization...
