Hello, i have a question. I wanna use a iMac case as a display for my hackintosh. I search for a mod with a metal case like 2007 or newer. I have a 24" diplay to disassable. Hase enyone experience with this mod? thanks for help :)

Intel iMacs, 2006 and up use LVDS connectivity to the LCD, which you'll find in most laptop computers. The iMac mods (so far) that have been posted on this forum are the older versions that use 30-pin TMDS signaling, which is directly adaptable to either DVI or HDMI.

LVDS and TMDS are radically different technologies. Successfully converting an LVDS monitor to run off a standard HDMI or DVI connection to a Hackintosh would require a converter board to do. They are expensive, must be programmed for the exact model of LCD being used, and of course are not guaranteed to work.

That's a very likely reason why you haven't seen any such mods posted here, nobody has wanted to touch it.

Just my 2c of course.

Cheers!

It is totally possible.

Use a displayport to LVDS adapter. You can find them on ebay for less than 100 USD.

You can also put a dell 24" monitor inside the mac, which would save a good bit of space.

That help?
