I have successfully installed 10.6.8 on the above machine (the bootloader is Chameleon 2.1svn 2069). The SMBIOS is showing a MacBookPro6,1 with a known serial number. Because there was no ethernet, I installed nullethernet. On reboot, the hardware configuration in About This Mac shows iMac8,1, with a serial number of SOMESRLNMBR. While for the first time I have been able to access the App Store (Thank You Rehab Man), I CANNOT download a previously purchased copy of Mountain Lion, or Mavericks (I get the message: We could not complete your purchase. OS X Mountain Lion or Maverick is not compatible with this computer), though I have been able to download other apps I previously purchased.

Suggestions, please...

There is something wrong with your smbios data. Also, use an smbios that is appropriate for your hardware.

SMBIOS was created using Chameleon Wizard. Everything in it was generated by "the Wizard". We had tried to use MacBook Air6,2, but according to an Apple rep, the serial number, which was generated was not valid. What do you suggest. That still doesn't explain why iMac8,1 now shows up in the Hardware configuration after we installed nullethernet

It indicates the board-id you have is wrong for the smbios you're trying to use. You need to double check.
