Trouble with 4K @ 60Hz: Asus PB287Q + (desktop) Intel HD4600 + Lenovo m93p (DisplayPort 1.2) + Yosemite

Hi All,

I've been trying a bunch of combinations of things, but I can't seem to get my Asus PB287Q's native UHD 4K resolution recognized by my hackintosh. First, I'll say that 3840x2160 @ 60Hz works great in Windows 8.1 with the exact same hardware / cables / etc, and that my eventual goal is to have the display system prefs look exactly like they would with a supported external 4k display (able to switch between "more space" options, etc). I do have DisplayPort 1.2 enabled in the OSD for the monitor.

Second, and most annoyingly for troubleshooting, I get a 0xdeadbeef size 0x0 gui.c line 505 error when trying to boot Chimera 4.0.1 with the monitor hooked up via DisplayPort. I do not get the error if:
  • I use another monitor hooked up to the DisplayPort input with VGA => DisplayPort adapter
  • I use HDMI input for the PB287Q with the HDMI input on my m93p
What's going on there? Once booted, I can switch to DisplayPort input on the PB287Q fine.

Third, no tools I've used list 3840x2160 as a valid resolution, nor do they list 1920x1080 (HiDPI) option. There is not an Overrides file for this monitor by default. I've tried:
  • Pixel clock limit removal
  • Custom Overrides file
  • SwitchResX custom resolution
From what I've read, 3840x2160 should be possible on HDMI @ 30Hz and possible on DisplayPort 1.2 @ 60Hz.

I am tempted to remove the HDMI input from the mobo and see where that takes me, but I'd rather not.

Questions/Info that may help:

  1. Could not going through the boot sequence with this thing plugged in via DisplayPort make any difference?
  2. Is Chimera bugged out with the 0xdeadbeef error? Why would it work with HDMI but not DP? Something the BIOS is passing to the boot loader?
  3. Connected via DisplayPort, the Display prefs think "Best for display" is 2560x1600", and I can access other resolutions while holding alt/option and selecting "Scaled" -- but none are 3840x2160 or 1920x1080 (HiDPI).
References:

Try the attached overrides file for your monitor and put it in "/System/Library/Displays/Overrides/DisplayVendorID-469". There should be nothing else in that directory.

I am not sure which bootloader you are using but use "0D260007" as your ig-platform id.

Let me know.

# Run the following command in order to patch IOKit in order to disable CheckTimingWithRange
sudo perl -i.bak -pe 's|\xB8\x01\x00\x00\x00\xF6\xC1\x01\x0F\x85|\x33\xC0\x90\x90\x90\x90\x90\x90\x90\xE9|sg' /System/Library/Frameworks/IOKit.framework/Versions/Current/IOKit
sudo codesign -f -s - /System/Library/Frameworks/IOKit.framework/Versions/Current/IOKit

Do you get 2560*1440 with this command?

My PC:
GA-Z97-D3H 带HDMI和DVI接口
i7-4790 HD4600 Graphics
can not get 4K too.
When you get 4K with HD4600 pls tell me.
