My 24" Dell 2414Q UltraHD was delivered this morning. It doesn't seem like there has been that much experience with displaying 4k at 60Hz over DisplayPort so I thought I'd write up my experiences on in an updatable blog post.

For those interested, my hack is running an i7 3770k, 32GB of RAM, and a Gigabyte GTX760 in Mavericks. At the moment I'm stuck at 30Hz as the stock Mavericks Nvidia drivers don't seem to support MST over Displayport, so I'm going to reinstall ML on another drive and give the last web drivers a shot.

I've hit a few small hurdles. Will be updating the post as I attempt to overcome them.

nice! i'm looking for to buy this monitor too. it would be great, if 60 hz would work.

Thanks for sharing this, i am expecting the very same monitor and a Mac Pro sometime in January, i was a little worried with AnandTech's review, but your more precise writeup made me choose to stay in this boat and wait until they issue correct drivers, stick to 30Hz until then.

Definitely longing to use lightroom with this new system instead of my aging 2009 iMac :)

Any news on 60Hz @4K for Dell UP2414Q running OS X?

I am running a very similar setup: GTX 660 + Dell UP 2414Q in HiDPI Mode (1920 x 1080)
Sharpness, Color and Detail is absolutely great.

Unfortunately I can not get my Display to run 60Hz at that resolution though.

Spend some time searching for updates on driver development. I was hoping for Apple to fix this issue by the shipping of the new Mac Pro model. So far it does not seem to be a work in progress, according to the review found here: http://www.anandtech.com/show/7603/mac-pro-review-late-2013/11

I've had no luck yet.
Waiting for 10.9.2 and perhaps updated Nvidia drivers.

10.9.2 has been released officially! Combo-Update:
http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1726

In release notes Apple states they have updated the graphics drivers. I am wondering if these help to improve overall compatibility with Dell's UP2414Q and 4K Displays in general. (60Hz maybe?)

Also there is new CUDA Drivers from nVidia available here:
http://us.download.nvidia.com/W68s843JXDZ1FhKmnrfhz8rPdfv7rKfM/WebDriver-331.01.01b15.pkg

Can not wait to test it out myself, unfortunately I do not have any chance for the rest of the week.

Hi

Any updates on this topic?

I plan to update my actual photo workstation with a Dual 4k configuration, with 2 GTX-760 in SLI, but a 60Hz refresh would be very nice...

best

Michael

Has anyone found a way to get 60Hz and scaling options in 10.9.3 using a hackintosh, and not a MBPr? I currently have 4K@30Hz running on UP3214Q and UP2414Q in 10.9.3 Beta 1 via GTX 780 Ti Matrix Platinum using Nvidia WebDriver-331.01.01b07 (only one that works in 10.9.3).

I would love to find a way to get this stuff working because I'm writing a review for these Dell 4K monitors, and i want to see 60Hz and retina scaling in action on OSX. MST via DisplayPort 1.2 works under Windows 8.1, but Mavericks is a no go...

How's the 4K in 30Hz? Is it usable? Or are you using your 4K display in 1080p?

I'm building my new Hackintosh with 780 Ti + 4K display. My 4K options are:

I have some issues with 4k (dell 2414Q). My system 3790k, EVGA GTX 760, GA-b75M-D3P wont display on DP unless an another minitor is plugged via HDMI or DVI. This was tested on Maverick 10.9.2, otherwise it works at 30Hz.

I am waiting for 10.9.3 to try again, also this setup works fine on Windows 8.1. I don't need to plug the second monitor to get the video on my 4k monitor.

30Hz is quite unusable, 60 is a must.
