Hi All,

I'm having an issue forcing my new Hack project (essentially a CustoMac Mini Deluxe built into a G3 iMac case/surround) to boot into 1024x768x32, the hack boots just fine when I connect a 19" (1280x1024 native res, connected via the HDMI port (mobo) to DVI port (display)) display using Chameleon v2.2svn r2246 (OS X 10.8.4 (12E55)). The issue is when I try with a 15" (1024x768 native res, connected via DVI port+DVI-to-RGB adaptor (mobo) to RGB port (display)) display using the "Graphics Mode=1024x768x32" boot flag (it's also included in org.chameleon.Boot.plist). The boot hangs at the spinning wheel and in verbose it hangs after successfully loading the lnx2Mac driver (twice as the GA-Z77N-WIFI mobo has 2 NICs), here's where it gets weird though, as if I connect the 19" display at this point (whether it's booting in verbose or not) I get a picture albeit at a funky (i.e. non-native) res. If I sleep and wake the hack at this point it's totally fine and works as if I've booted normally.

Kit being used is as follows:
Mobo - Gigabyte GA-Z77N-WIFI
CPU - Intel Core i5 3570K
RAM - Corsair CMZ8GX3M2A1600C9 8GB 1600MHz CL9 DDR3 Vengeance Memory Two Module Kit
15" Display - Dell E152 FPG (although I have tried another 15" with the same results!)

I really need to get this to boot firstly to the 15" display as that's the only display that will fit into the G3 surround so any help/pointers anyone can offer will be greatly appreciated!

Solved this myself, it wasn't anything to do with Chameleon and had everything to do with the way the GA-Z77N-WIFI handles video outputs. There are 2 x HDMI and 1 x DVI on the board, the bottom HDMI (the one nearest the board) is a duplicate of the DVI port so once booted into OS X I simply changed the resolution of the screen to 1024x768 (via the 19" connected to the bottom HDMI) however the D-Sub (via D-Sub to DVI) connected 15" was still borked and to fix this I had to re-connected the (mirrored) HDMI connected (19") display and hey-presto it displays a copy of the 19" on the 15" - progress.

Upon reboot this also works but I have to disconnect and re-connect the HDMI to make the D-Sub connected (via a D-Sub to DVI adaptor) 15" work (if only this http://www.tonymacx86.com/graphics/99970-possible-no-signal-detected-fix-10-8-2-10-8-3-hd4000.html was relevant to my board!!! - Also tried 'PEG' (PCI Express Graphics) but didn't work setting in BIOS and it didn't work or take i.e. on reboot it was set back to 'Auto' I'm guessing because I don't have GFX card connected to my PCI-E slot).

As such I have purchased a HDMI to D-Sub connector and fingers crossed this will display (directly to the 15") correctly on reboot (as the 19" does now @ 1024x768) as once completed this will all be inside the iMac G3 shell. If this doesn't work I'm back to the drawing board, does anyone know of a 15" monitor that will accept HDMI/DVI natively and has inbuilt speakers/amp and accepts a 3.5mm stereo jack?

Hi Steve,

There was a short thread that was similar yesterday. Not sure that it will answer the questions posed in quite the way you imagine, but I did link to some active adaptors on the tread that might help point you in the right direction : http://www.tonymacx86.com/graphics/101931-hd4000-graphics-scrambled-720p.html

Great build idea, I have seen other similar ones done elsewhere - finding a suitable 15" monitor has been a problem for a few years now. Good luck and will be interesting to follow your build

Second hand 15" monitors should be cheap to pick up, you can solve the audio problem by adding a small digital amplifier into the system, I have seen this on one of the cube builders threads. Will find it and post back later.

EDIT, here is the link for the digital amplifier : http://www.tonymacx86.com/powermac-g4-cube/98121-uncut-g4-cube-mod-ongoing-project-6.html#post623442
