Hello Group,

I got myself into a bit of a bind and I hoping for some assistance/help.

Background: I purchased a fully running hackintosh from my brother. He was low on funds and was selling it and I wanted to help him out (I love my 2013 macbook air and have a house full of other apple products, so wanted to use this hackintosh for video encoding and as a HTPC). I had no idea how complicated this is, how steep the learning curve is and I was tempted to format the drive and install Windows instead (even though I love OS X, due to my lack of knowledge and being completely overwhelmed). However, after sleeping on it, hackintoshing sounds like an amazing hobby and I am up for the challenge if I can get some help. I spent most of my weekend reading lots of various posts and forums and trying to get as familiar with the terminology as possible.

Pros:
• The system is fully functional with everything major working to my knowledge (10.10.5 and Clover). There are no sleep issues, audio returning after sleep issues or any of the other big issues I see others post a lot about. The only things not working are:
  • iMessage and FaceTime (it is ok since it will be used as a HTPC, I don't have a camera for FaceTime and I don't want iMessages popping up when I'm watching a movie.
  • Handoff and Continuity (since I don't have the approved/correct network card installed.
  • I haven't determined if Airdrop works or not.
  • I haven't determined if there are any airplay issues, since the 660ti GPU hdmi out is connected directly to the tv. I do have an apple tv and getting airplay to work in the future, if it is not already, might be worth it.
My brother posted a very detailed guide of this step by step instruction on this forum located here: here...http://www.tonymacx86.com/alternate...tall-clover-ga-77n-wifi-couple-questions.html ... however, at this point in the game, a lot of it seems to me like it is written in another language ;) . It seems like he gave back to the community and hopefully the community help me out.

Cons:
• Unlike most users, who research their build, put it together, go through the trials, tribulations and pull your hair out moments installing and troubleshooting issues... I am coming in very late in the game. I hoping to use my system and enjoy it in the meantime and begin to reverse engineer it as we go along and as I consider upgrading it to El Capitan, when it is released and Mackintosh approved.

Help I need:
1) Making sure my Bios settings are correct/optimal for performance (since I will be doing some serious video encoding with this system), without risking make damage, overheating, blue screens, etc.. I will post my various bios screens below and if you could point out either any glaring errors or the main settings that negatively affect hackintoshes, I would be grateful.
  • Also, I am a complete noob to overclocking. Since you can not change the cpu voltage on this motherboard, it was not complicated like regular overclocking and I just increased my cpu overclocking value (can't think of what is it called right now) from 35 to 41, which is considered, I believe, to be only a little overclock. I have heard others have 43 or 44 running with no glitches and my brother even installed liquid cooling. My bigger concern is the memory overclock. I will confirm, but, I believe my brother installed 1333 RAM and I increased the multiplier to 16 to get 1600. I read in another post where someone went to 1833, with prob. different Ram, however, when I increased my ram to a multiplier of 18.3 and increased the memory voltage a bit per his instructions, my bios only showed my RAM at around 1600. So as far as I can tell, why risk it at 18.3, with additional voltage. Should I leave the voltage stock for 1600 overclock.

2) Making sure i have the right Mac model selected. All of the guides I have read were written in 2013 and use Multibeast and not Clover. At that time there was very few systems with Ivy Bridge support. As a result, people have suggested a wide range of systems from iMac to Mac mini to Mac Pro and I can't make heads or tales of it.

3) Somehow determining if I have the correct or best patches installed. I'm not sure which is easier (trying to attach things like a DSDT or SSDT or listing various kexts or plists (I don't really know what these things are yet, but I see them talked about all the time ;)) or if you could quickly read my brothers guide and determine what is wrong or needs to be changed based on his step by step instructions.

4) I am concerned that I might have power management issues or speed stepping issues. I am not sure where to begin to check this or how to tell, but I just want to make sure I am using my CPU correctly and properly supply enough power to the required components I still am unclear, is it good or bad to have speed stepping? I believe there is a setting in the bios that removes speed stepping and when that is disabled system generates much better scores on benchmark tests, is this correct?

Finally, I have two SSDs, one with windows and one with the hackintosh osx. I only plug in one at a time. I wanted to see how this system performed on benchmarks tests that are available for both OSX and windows. The two benchmarks that I ran were geekbench 3 and cinebenchR15. To my surprise/happiness, the hackintosh out performed windows on geekbench 3, and the cinebench CPU test. However, the mackintosh had a significantly lower score on the open gl test in hackintosh compared to windows (windows in the high 90s FPS and hackintosh in the low 60s). Is there something wrong with how my GPU is setup in the hackintosh and is open gl even a good test to determine if the GPU is working properly in the hackintosh?

Thank you so much in advance
and I am happy to provide and useful information or do anything reading required. Also, I am happy to just go slowly and address one issue at a time, if that is preferable.
Kind Regards,

Jack

Hopefully mrengles, Stork, or some other users will read my post above, as I don't have the post count to PM them directly.

I am new to the community, but have read a number of their posts on this forum and other hackintosh forums and I really respect their opinions and value your expertise.

I have a system almost identical to one of mrrengles systems. Specifically, we both have 660tis and GA-z77n-wifi Mobos and the only difference is I have the 3770k processor, while you have the 3570k. One of storks systems is similar to mine, with mine differences.

As time permits, would you please read my post (above) and provide me with any relevant advice or thoughts that you may have. I would really appreciate your help.

Thank you and Best Regards,

Jack
