Hey clever Hackintosh dudes,

I would be really grateful for any advice on how to set up a new build.

For several years now, I have been running my original Hackintosh hardware and OS X.10.6.8
using the following hardware configuration:

MOBO: Gigabit H55M-USB3
Graphics Card: GeForce 8400 GS
RAM: 4GB DDR3 1333 MHz (Crucial)
CPU: 3.2 Ghz Intel Core i3

This hackintosh has served me very well and has lasted for several years without too much of a glitch
(apart from the original teething problems for an inexperienced Hackintosh'er learning to set up his first hackintosh).

I am actually fairly happy with the original build, however, time waits for no man, and the other software I use (which I haven't used for some time) no longer support OS X.10.6.8 and ask me to update my OS.

Now, because I haven't kept up on updating my OS, I find myself in bit of a predicament.
Do I update OS X.10.6.8 to the next OS, one step or OS at a time (which I fear will likely be a load of hard work and loads of potential for error, especially my own..doh!)

Or do I, instead, simply buy myself a new HD and install the most up to date *(but free OS) I can get my hands on. Which I think is now 10.10, although I may be wrong.

Please, feel free to give me any constructive advice.
I know that my hardware configuration isn't so great and perhaps a little out of date now, but may still fit my purposes, which is primarily to use the Hackintosh for Logic Pro (which I own a copy of, well at least 9, which I plan to update once the new hackintosh OS is in place and working).

Thanks for reading:thumbup:

I would go the new hard drive (or SSD) route and install El Capitan (10.11). My current daily driver started out at Lion (10.7) and has been successively updated to El Capitan. It works, but my feeling is that since you will be facing a boot loader switch to Clover along the way, you may as well just start out with it. Follow the Installation Guide to the letter, and I can't guarantee you'll have no problems, but you'll have the best chance of no problems. You will need to choose the Legacy Boot option in UniBeast, since there's no way your hardware has a UEFI BIOS. Good luck!

Hey Nobodynose.
Thanks very much for your advice.
I shall do what you recommend.
just hope that a new install will be ok with the present hardware.
Guess there is only one way to find out.
Still, a new hard drive is cheap enough.
1TB for around £30.
And the OS is free. So, for a new Boot,
cheap as chips,
Just gotta put my thinking hat on.
Cheers
Om

Hi Hackintosh experts.
Just a quick update. To let you guys know.
Using the above config
I did manage to install the latest version of OS X on existing hardware with no problem.
Brilliant.
However, I found out that I cant install my old version of Logic Pro 9 on OSX El Capitan
so am now installing an earlier version of OS X so that I can use Logic 9
Thanks again
