Hello,

I have been doing some research on building a Hackintosh because my MacBook Pro's graphics card died recently. I have a SATA 2.5" SSD with OS X Yosemite already installed, and a dedicated gaming PC that has its own HDD for Windows 7.

What steps would I need to take to be able to boot on to OS X and back onto Windows 7 with ease? Is this possible?

Any replies would be appreciated, and I would have no problem sharing my gaming PCs specs if necessary.

Thanks,
RetinaShockHD

Your MacBook installation will probably not work since the OS X installer installed the MacBook only "stuff." You can try it, but our experience is that it won't work. You'll need the generic installer downloaded from the Apple's Mac App Store to create the UniBeast USB installer. If you don't have access to a Mac (friend, school or college/university) or a hack, then see tonymacx86's http://www.tonymacx86.com/general-help/60255-simplest-mac-os-x-installation-guide.html.

Welcome to the forum.

I encourage you to start with reading the guides found under the "Guides" menu election above. It is good to start with the "Start Here" pages.

Your reading should include the rules. And you should complete the profile information so that the details of your PC are presented tin the left side bar below you user ID.

And yes it is possible to use your SSD in your PC given it is compatible with OS X. And there is a section on Dual Booting that will provide you with options and things to think about.

Good modding,

Thanks for helping me get started.

I read the UniBeast Yosemite Guide (http://www.tonymacx86.com/yosemite-...-x-yosemite-any-supported-intel-based-pc.html) and the Dual Booting guide for Win 7-8 and OS X Mavericks/Yosemite (http://www.tonymacx86.com/multi-booting/96000-guide-dual-booting-mountain-lion-windows-8-a.html).

I think I will create a UniBeast Yosemite boot drive (though I already have 2 regular boot drives) so that I can boot on my PC. I forgot to mention that my existing gaming PC has a Dell motherboard, and I have not been able to find its model number. I can still access the Dell BIOS menu, but I don't know what I need to change.
I have searched the forums for guides/questions regarding this, but I have not found anything, so does anyone know what I need to do in my BIOS to allow my PC to boot up on Mac OS X?

Again, thank you,

RetinaShock
