So I tried using the search function, but couldn't find an answer to my question, or maybe I just plain missed it. I used the buyer's guide to order parts for my build, but it looks like the graphics card is going to arrive a few days after everything else. My question is, can I use the onboard graphics and then add on the graphics card when it arrives, or do I have to wait for the graphics card before I start trying to install everything?

TIA

If the onboard graphics are HD3000, HD4000, HD4600, or Iris HD5200 then this should be no problem. HD4400 should work also, but it's a little trickier to configure, requiring the installation of an additional kext and some extra configuration (see http://www.tonymacx86.com/graphics/...ics-fix-full-support-alternate-cpus-os-x.html and http://www.tonymacx86.com/yosemite-...tel-hd4200-hd4400-hd4600-mobile-yosemite.html).

Switching to your graphics card after it arrives isn't difficult - you just have to remember to add any necessary boot flags required by your graphics card (such as "GraphicsEnabler=no" for Nvidia 6xx/7xx Kepler cards) before you shut down to install the new card, then configure your BIOS to boot from the PCIe card first (and/or disable the onboard graphics) before booting back up.

Awesome. Looks like I'll have the HD4600. Thanks for the help.
