Intel Core i7 3.5GHz
Graphics
NVIDIA GeForce 660 Ti 2048MB
Mac
  1. iMac
  2. Mac Pro
Classic Mac

Mobile Phone
  1. iOS
Components:

  • GA-Z87N-WIFI motherboard
  • Intel Core i7-4790K
  • 16 GB 1600MHz (2 x 8GB) Corsair Mac compatible (taken off of my other Hackintosh for now)
  • Seagate 1TB Barracuda 3.5"
  • Corsair SX500M PSU
  • BitFenix Phenom case

Carefully installed everything into case, connected:

  • CPU fan cable to motherboard
  • ATX 24 pin connector from PSU
  • 4 pin CPU lead to motherboard from PSU (its an 8 pin plug but 4 pins fit)
  • all the front panel connectors onto correct connectors of motherboard
  • HDD to SATA port 0 and power lead from PSU to HDD
  • front panel USB3.0 to motherboard
  • Audio connector to motherboard

Plugged in PSU to power switched PSU switch to on, and pressed power button on front panel, nothing happens apart from a click in the PSU! Carefully disassembled everything, and thought we would attempt to get motherboard running out of case, so again carefully assembled out of case and this time used another PSU (Corsair RM850) which definitely works, switched on PSU and press power button on front panel, again just a click in the PSU and CPU fan doesn't start to spin or even any fron panel lights! I'm now at a loss on what to try next? I would appreciate anyones suggestions, please

First clear the CMOS settings by removing the chrome coin battery (with the mains power disconnected).
Refit the battery after a short while.

Reduce everything to a minimum configuration - At the moment you just want it to POST so remove everything not required for that.

So, just motherboard, cpu and one stick of RAM.

Connect a speaker to the pins on the motherboard so you can hear any beep error codes.

Connect your monitor and power on.

Good Luck

@P1grim - I did as you suggested and still get the same!

Then it would seem that you either have a defective/incompatible part or you have assembled them incorrectly.

Good Luck

Everything is assembled correctly, I think I've got a dud motherboard!

You need to flash the BIOS and update it to a version that supports your new 4790k Processor. Common problem found doing this hardware combo. Take it to a shop and they will put an old processor in it for you, flash the bios for around $20.

Thanks, I'll bear that in mind. At the moment the motherboard doesn't even show any signs of life, CPU cooler fan or case fan doesn't even attempt to spin. I'm waiting for a replacement motherboard now. What version of the BIOS does this motherboard ship with? I see it needs F5 for the i7 4790K.

I have an Intel i7-3770K on my other Hackintosh that has the GA-Z77X-UP5-TH motherboard, would this new motherboard take this CPU to enable me to flash the BIOS to F5?

This is the list of processors supported by your GA-Z87N-WIFI motherboard.

Good Luck

I take it that the GA-Z87N-WIFI mobo comes with BIOS F4? If I get a cheap Celeron CPU, e.g. G1820, I would be able to flash the BIOS ok then?
