I don't know if this is of Interest or the right Forum to Post this Information to.

Today i testet a SAMSUNG U28D590D UHD Display (here in Germany for 600€ yours) on my 15" 2013 MacBook Pro Retina with internal Iris Pro to see if i get 60Hz in native Resolution with OS X 10.9.3 (Displayport)

The Answer is "YES", see here: IMG_0468.jpg

So i may sell my 27" DELL and get one of these. Only downside is that the Build-Quality of the Samsung is not as good as those of the DELL, but the 4K Look of this 28" Display blows you away.

Tomorrow i will buy one of these and will see if it works with my Hackintosh too (GTX660).

Hi, I got my U28D590 1 hour ago. With Macbook pro 13" late 2013 (retina & iris) and 10.9.3 I get max 2560x1440 60Hz with ThunderBolt2-DP and 3840x2160 30Hz with hdmi-hdmi. What Thunderbolt-dp cable are you using to get 4K 60HZ ? Any changes in display setup?

Next I want to get 4K 60Hz with my hackintosh, hope it will work out too.

I use a Standard Minidisplayport to Displayport Cable on my TB2 Port to get the full resolution with Iris Pro. Don't know HDMI, haven't tested. You need to use Displayport for Full Resolution. If it didn't Work for you it could be that Iris (unlike Iris Pro in the 15") didn't Support it.

With 10.9.3 your Hackintosh should Support Full Resolution, again, using a Displayport-Plug on your GraphicsCard or Internal Graphics (HD4600). With a GTX660 it worked fine for me.

No need to set anything up in display setup. If it works it has the same Features as your internal Retina Display. Use "Largest Space" to get the Full Resolution. You can use 4K-Content (Youtube) via 2560x1440 also, if Video ist started in Fullscreen, 4K kicks in automagically.

HTH,

Thanks Bernie. According to some articles only 15" late 2013 macbook pro will support 4K in 60Hz. Some information points out that other 2013 late macbook pro's with Iris doesn't have the power to run 60Hz, according to Apple this is.

Maybe some tweak could get my Macbook pro 13" retina/Iris late 2013 to run 4k also in 60Hz, however with some performance issue perhaps?

My Hackintosh is i7 with HD4000 and runs only only 2560x1440 60Hz with DP-DP. I need to add a GTX card.

Hi,

I just got a 4K SAMSUNG U28D590D too and I'm trying to plug it to a macbook pro (Retina, 13-inch, Late 2013).
I'm trying to use a HDMI cable and a DP cable (with an adaptor to mini-DP) these are the resolutions I get:

HDMI cable:
3840 x 2160
3008 x 1692 (low resolution)
2560 x 1440 (low resolution)
1920 x 1080
1280 x 720

The first two resolution I get 30 Hertz the other I get 60 Hertz.

DP cable (with an adaptor to mini-DP):
2560 x 1440
2048 x 1152
1600 x 900

All resolution at 60 Hertz. see image bellow.

Do you get the same resolutions? Do you also get the "low resolution" message in parenthesis? The image with the DP cable adapter are all not sharp. Could it be from the low cost adaptor to mini-DP? The only resolution where the image is sharp are 3840 x 2160 and 1920 x 1080 with HDMI cable.

just wanted to confirm I'm getting same results as you - and tried various DP-miniDP cables with same effect

what is interesting though that on my second monitor - Dell UP2414Q - I am able to get 3840x2160 / 30Hz via DP. Picture is sharp.

what I want is to get (at least) same resolution on Samsung, but, as you, the max I'm getting over DP is 2560x1440 / 60Hz and over HDMI 3840x2160 / 30Hz

didn't manage to make it happen
