Question: GIGABYTE GA-Z97N-Gaming 5 Intel Z97 moBo & osx86

I was about to kill my eVGA Z77 mITX moBo and get a gigabyte z87 mITX moBo to try OSX86. I run both PCs and Macs. Also, I have a 2009 Mac Pro that I am going to replace but not with a new Mac Pro. I'd rather dual boot Win and OSX86 because Intel boards are just offering so much now. Z97 has M2, AC, and NFC among other things.

Anyway, can I nab a new Gigabyte z97 motherboard and expect OSX86 to run on it? If I were to go with an Asus z97 mITX, I have seen guides on installing OSX86, is it still the case that it's relatively easy to patch and install on an Asus board? What about dual booting?. Another eason I ask is even the mITX Asus board has an M2 slot on it for a SSD. Will M2 SSDs be recognized?

thanks,

and greetings from Brooklyn.

Kenji

I Think Its too early to say, but most likely the non-gaming gigabyte models have shows great compatibilities

I'm only taking a faint guess about the M.2 connector, but considering that M.2 SSDs (mounted via PCI-e cards) are recognised in OS X in Mac Pro (2006-2012), there's a good chance it will work.

According to the latest buyers' guide, none of the 9-series boards have been tested yet and no firm deadline has been set. Sometime later this year I guess it becomes official.

Why don't you go for it and keep a log of your experience. I'm sure a few of us would find it useful. But no one will blame you for being cautious and sticking with the 8 series.
