Greetings,

I am on my third Seagate Barracuda 3TB drive. They all have the same problems. Sometimes it says needs to be initialized. Sometimes the drive is not seen at all. Sometimes it says it can't be repaired. The problems increase over time until the drive is never seen or it partitioning fails. I have had the same problems on two computers, and no problems with other drives.

What the heck is wrong with these drives? I am about to return the one Seagate just replaced the last one with.

Thanks

My first guess is inadequate airflow around them to keep them cool, i.e. they're overheating. Being 7200rpm drives, those can run very hot.

When a drive dies from overheating is it the ciruit board or the mechanical inside that is damaged?
