Hi there!
I recently assembled an hackintosh based on a P7P55D and i7 processor to run a Protools HD3 PCI system. Unfortunately i'm experiencing many problems with my external drives. I use a Lacie Quadra 2TB, a WD mybook, a Lacie Rugged 320 Gb FW/USB2, and a Lacie d2 with triple interface (FW400/800/USB2). Used iboot+multibeast for installation and DSDT made with auto patcher 0.6 (with some edits for the the graphic card, Asus Nvidia 8400GS 1GB). I also installed a Digitus PCIe to FW800 card (with TI chipset).

Now the problem is the following:

1) onboard FW interface works fine but only few disks/interfaces are recognized. Now i use it with the following FW chain: WD mybook, Lacie d2 Triple, Apple cinema display FW Hub, MOTU 828 and an old FW iPod. This chain seems to work quite well... protools, however, sometimes gives me slowness errors when reading audio (i know that shorter chains for audio are suggested but i want to be able to use all my storage)

2) I wanted to use the Digitus card for all the FW stuff but it works fine only until i launch protools 8. Then all the disks connected to such a chain unexpectedly unmount and are then unusable for protools... I tried to modify the DSDT as suggested for the FW card but nothing seems to improve...

3) trying now to use the onboard e-Sata interface (with the drivers in multi beast) for, at least, the Lacie Quadra but the disk unmounts randomly and need to reboot in order for the computer to remount it... Using USB2 for the rugged HD seems fine.

I desperately need to use the quadra with a fast interface for audio streaming and fix the whole thing... can someone suggest me some possible solution? I actually wouldn't buy a new FW interface since i suspect that similar problems could emerge as well....

Please help

TIA

Alessandro

get a pci firewire card.
i recommend the belkin f5u503. it has a TI chipset which is perfect for audio interfaces

I have no free PCI slots (protools HD3 occupies all 3 PCI slots). I'm using the Digitus PCIe to FW card with T.I. chipset... but it gives problem when i launch protools. Don't know if depends on high traffic load on PCI bus due to HD3 cards...
