Hi everyone,I am going to have a go at building my first hackintosh (micro ATX). I have a friend who has built some in the past that can help out.I just wanted to post up my list of parts to see if anyone can see something that won't be compatible?CPU intel-core-i5-4690kMotherboard gigabyte-ga-z97m-d3hSSD samsung-850-evo-250gbI'm in Australia and will be getting everything from a shop called Austin's.I don't suppose someone can confirm if i can use either of these graphics cards? (just have to check what sort of room the case i want has)http://www.austin.net.au/gigabyte-g...-geforce-gtx960-2gb-windforce-edition.htmlAnd are any of these 16GB ram kits compatible?http://www.austin.net.au/shop-categ...emorytype=1749&ram_totalmemorysize=1801Lastly, Just wanted to confirm that i can use any power supply? I have a Gigabyte 700W at the moment i can use.Sorry for all the questions, I have looked at all the lists and i think my parts are compatible. Just wanted some reassurance before i order them. Thanks

CPU, Motherboard and the Gigabyte GTX760 look to be fine - just remember that the GPU has no native support and requires additional drivers to be installed. Additional steps are therefor required. For RAM - this looks good to me and is what I would spend my money on:
http://www.austin.net.au/gskill-16gb-kit-2-x-8gbddr3-1600-dual-channel.html

If the Gigabyte power supply is more than a couple of years old then I would be cautious recommending its use. Try it - if you have any freezing or other strange issues that could be a PSU issue then don't rule out the problems being PSU related. Always get the best PSU that you can afford - its the life blood to the motherboard, CPU, HDDs, SSDs, GPU - everything

Thanks for the reply. glad to hear i can use the stuff in my list.
Are there any GPU's that are supported and don't require any additional drivers or is this the case with any i get?

The power supply is 2-3 years old from memory so i might as well replace it.

Any recommendations for a PSU out of this list http://www.austin.net.au/shop-categ...r=desc&order=price&powersupplies_wattage=1431

These seem to rate pretty highly http://www.austin.net.au/760w-corsair-ax760-100-modular-atx-power-supp.html
what do you think?

the gtx760 is supported natively. are you sure you need that particular card though?

the ax760 is a great psu. but expensive. id recommend the corsair rm series (because thats what ive got), but generally, any psu by a 'decent' brand around 400w+, gold-platinum rated will be more than enough. you can get psus half the price of the ax that will do the job just as well.

your biggest problem is going to be building the pc upside down ;)

Thanks again for another quick reply :)

Um, doesn't have to be the 760. Is this not a good card? or would you recommend another? I was just picking that as it seemed a decent card for the price and i wanted to get all my stuff at the same store. Here are all the geforce cards they have http://www.austin.net.au/shop-categ...-graphics-cards.html?graphicscard_chipset=858 Do you think i should go up from the 760?

I'll look into the RM series power supplies. I can never really figure out what wattage i need. I'll look into some good ones around the 500-650W range then.

Thanks again

Edit, am i missing something if i don't understand the building upside down bit?:oops:

i meant more along the lines of do you need a gfx card at all.
you havent said what youre planning on using the system for. if its just for general day to day use (web, tv etc) its a waste of money.

Haha. I see...

Yeah definetly need a graphics card. Will be used for phtot and video editing and we shoot in raw so can be pretty intensive.

Your Video editing package will determine the Graphics Card. If you edit in FCP X, go AMD, if you use Premiere nVidia is fine.

Do not make the mistake of assuming the nVidia cards are any good with FCP X. Great cards, poor with FCP X.
