Hello!

Although I have been reading on tonymacs for ages, I have decided this week to take the plunge and start my Hackintosh to replace my Early 2008 Mac Pro which is starting to show its age.

I have started to gather parts together already and I have the following:

NZXT S340 case in white
i7-4790k
Gigabyte z97x-ud3h
Corsair RM750

Making choices slowly and carefully just now but I will hopefully be creating a build thread soon. I am sure I will be on here regularly panicking and looking for help!!

Thanks

David:)

So far a nice build. I would recommend a GTX 980 or a R9 290X graphics unless you are not going for a Mac Pro like build. Also I would recommend going 16gb ram right away that you can do 2 8gb chips so they are running in dual channel.

Thanks for the post!not decided on graphics card yet but I see you have an R9 290, would you recommend it and did it work easily enough in your build?

I love my R9 290X. I am a gamer so I love the power it provides me. I have yet to run into a game that I could not run at High/Ultra settings at a 60FPS rate. The R9 290X and the GTX980 are almost the same thing power wise, the only thing that I would say a GTX over a R9 is for CUDA cores (Adobe software uses these) making them faster on Mac. So if you like to game on windowss I would say go either or, all depends on your brand liking :D. If you are going to use Mac OS X only on it I would say go for the GTX. Hope that helps!

For which purposes do you want to build a machine? Might help us (and you) if you tell :)

I am going to be using my build for the following if this helps:

OSX music creation in Logic Pro and Garageband
Minimal video editing in Final cut pro (mainly gopro footage)
CAD modelling in Windows in Autodesk Inventor
Gaming in windows

I currently have 2 23" Apple Cinema Displays that I use in a dual monitor setup but i am looking to change this for an Asus MX299Q 21:9 monitor.

Thanks for that, its that kind of information that i am needing just now with regard to picking parts!

MacZach94, How much trouble did you have getting your 290x up and running?

Oh man I'm so sorry I did not see this until today. I had no trouble getting it to run when using MultiBeast. If you would like I could actually do a whole install video for you if you need.
