To start, I've been using a late 2011 MBP 13" for about 4 years now and I've recently started university so I thought I'd upgrade my machine. Originally I planned on purchasing a new MBP or MBA, but then changed my mind and was looking at buying a monitor and keyboard only and continue using my current MBP. I was looking at the prices of some decent monitors ranging in the $500-$700 price range and I thought "Why not spend a little extra and buy a PC?". The benefits of having a monitor larger than 13" really entices me too.

So with that being said I looked around for hackintosh builds and guides.

My budget is around $800- Moderate gaming, Premiere, having a large number of word/powerpoint/excel documents open (Maybe it's normal for any kind of PC to be able to handle 3+ word documents open because my MBP ****s itself when I attempt anything like that, or maybe my standards are really low). Case size I don't really mind, a smaller case I would be able to leave on my table and a larger case can just go on the floor. A relatively quiet PC would be ideal too.

I have zero experience in terms of building a PC and part compatibility so I followed the February Buyer's guide and settled on the CustoMac Budget ATX guide but I hit a problem. I'm going to be ordering 100% of my parts (If possible) from Umart Australia. I used this "Build a computer" page to input all the parts

https://www.umart.com.au/umart1/pro/build_computer1.phtml?id=10&bid=2&id2=9

I couldn't find the recommended RAM and I'm not sure what other types are compatible with a hackintosh build. I'm very open to other suggestions and recommendations that other users may have, thank you in advanced.

On the manufacturer's website (for your motherboard) you will find the QVL or qualified vendors
list that shows you what ram has been tested for that specific board. Find a dual channel kit from
that list that provides the amount of ram you need and purchase that. Is it the Crucial ram that
is not available ? I would also look other places in Australia if Umart doesn't carry it. It looks like
they do carry the G.Skill ram that should also work.

G Skill 8G(2x4G) DDR3 1600Mhz PC12800 RL 9-9-9-24(CL9D-8GBRL)

If you can't obtain the Crucial Ballistix I would then go with the G.Skill 8 GB kit above. Best
of luck on your build !
